( Called in to advise on a leaking roof at St Chad's Church Shrewsbury in 1788, he correctly warned the church was in imminent danger of collapse ; his reputation was made locally when it collapsed 3 days later, but he was not the architect for its replacement ).

He was made an honorary fellow of St Chad's College, Durham and awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Durham in 1998 ; and in 2002 was awarded the Templeton Prize for his contributions to research at the interface between science and religion.

His second wife died in 1844 and was buried at St. Chad's, Birmingham, a church which he had himself had designed.

Other works include St Chad's Cathedral, Erdington Abbey, and Oscott College, all in Birmingham.

The first Catholic Bishop of New South Wales, Australia, John Bede Polding, met Pugin and was present when St. Chad's Cathedral, Birmingham and St. Giles ' Catholic Church, Cheadle were officially opened.

One of the headlands discovered on the expedition was named St Chad's Head and the sledge used was presented to Denstone College.

St Chad's Church

St Chad's is the old parish church in Farndon.

The Reformation brought the disappearance of pilgrim traffic following the destruction of St Chad's shrine in 1538 which was a major loss to the city's economic prosperity.

Lord Brooke, notorious for his hostility to the church, led an assault against it, but was killed by a deflected bullet on St Chad's day, an accident welcomed as a miracle by the Royalists.

The two streams have been dammed south of the Cathedral on Dam Street to form Minster Pool and near St Chad's Road to form Stowe Pool.

At St Chad's College the College feastday begins with a proclamation of the feast and includes an early rise, college invasions, green breakfast, as well as a host of competitions that see students spread out into the City vying to win various awards.

The former route of the A41 through inner Birmingham is now the B4100 heading past the Digbeth National Express coach station, and passes near St Chad's RC Cathedral.

A strong and prominent a cappella tradition was begun in the midwest part of the United States in 1911 by F. Melius Christiansen, a music faculty member at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

The St. Olaf College Choir was established as an outgrowth of the local St. John's Lutheran Church, where Christiansen was organist and the choir was composed at least partially of students from the nearby St. Olaf campus.

The success of the ensemble was emulated by other regional conductors, and a rich tradition of a cappella choral music was born in the region at colleges like Concordia College ( Moorhead, Minnesota ), Augustana College ( Rock Island, Illinois ), Wartburg College ( Waverly, Iowa ), Luther College ( Decorah, Iowa ), Gustavus Adolphus College ( St. Peter, Minnesota ), Augustana College ( Sioux Falls, South Dakota ), and Augsburg College ( Minneapolis, Minnesota ).

The youngest son of William Edward Parkinson ( 1871 – 1927 ), an art master at North East County School and from 1913 principal of York School of Arts and Crafts, and his wife, Rose Emily Mary Curnow ( born 1877 ), the young Parkinson attended St. Peter's School, York, where in 1929 he won an Exhibition to study history at Emmanuel College at the University of Cambridge.

With the ecclesiastical parishes of St Fagan's ( Trecynon ) and Aberaman carved out of the ancient parish, Aberdare had 12 Anglican churches and one Roman Catholic church, built in 1866 in Monk Street near the site of a cell attached to Penrhys monastery, and at one time had over 50 Nonconformist chapels.

Neighbouring St Fillan's Church is one of the best-preserved medieval parish churches in Scotland, dating largely to the 12th century.

In the 15th century the Norman church of St Petroc was largely rebuilt and stands as one of the largest churches in Cornwall ( the largest after the cathedral at Truro ).

St Benedict in the 6th century drew up such an arrangement, probably, though not certainly, on the basis of an older Roman division which, though not so skilful, is the one in general use.
