Tärnaby, a small village in the municipality, has fostered the internationally famous alpine skiers Ingemar Stenmark, Stig Strand and Anja Pärson.

Pärson's athletics club is Fjällvinden, Tärnaby, the same to which skiing legend Ingemar Stenmark and Stig Strand belonged.

His family moved to Tärnaby when he was four years old, where he became neighbours with Stig Strand, who would later won the World Cup Slalom title.
