As Stith Thompson points out, talking animals and the presence of magic seem to be more common to the fairy tale than fairies themselves.

* Stith Thompson, American folklore scholar, was born and grew up in Bloomfield.

At Bloomington, he wrote several essays about his native Chewa tribe for the folklorist Stith Thompson, who introduced him to Edward Sapir, an anthropologist at the University of Chicago, to which, after four semesters, he transferred.

Several elements in its narrative structure follow formulaic elements in the methodology that was formulated by Antti Aarne and his translator Stith Thompson ( the Aarne-Thompson classification system ) and by the earlier, more generalized method of Vladimir Propp, who used Russian folk tales.

John Stith Pemberton ( July 8, 1831 – August 16, 1888 ) was a Confederate veteran and an American pharmacist, and is best known for being the inventor of Coca-Cola.
