Charlton continued publishing two of Fawcett's horror books — This Magazine Is Haunted and Strange Suspense Stories — initially using unpublished material from Fawcett's inventory.

Strange Suspense Stories ran longer, lasting well into the 1960s before giving up the ghost in 1965.

Giordano's artwork from Charlton's Strange Suspense Stories was used as inspiration for artist Roy Lichtenstein's 1965 / 1966 Brushstroke series, including Brushstroke, Big Painting No. 6, Little Big Painting and Yellow and Green Brushstrokes.

The plot was loosely based on a short story from Qing Dynasty writer Pu Songling's Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio ( 聊齋誌異 ), and also inspired by the 1960 Shaw Brothers Studio film The Enchanting Shadow.

Lafcadio Hearn's collection of Japanese ghost stories entitled Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things includes stories of yūrei and yōkai such as Yuki-onna, and is one of the first Western publications of its kind.

Strange Adventures # 207 ( Dec. 1967 ): One of Adams ' earliest DC Comics covers, and his first for his signature character Deadman, already shows a mature style and a design innovation for the time.

Another, his breakout character, was the supernatural hero Deadman, who had debuted in DC's Strange Adventures # 205 ( Nov. 1967 ).
