Another Canadian promotion that was a key member in the NWA until also being absorbed into the WWF was Stu Hart ’ s Stampede Wrestling in Calgary, although when it was relaunched in 1999, it did not become a member of the NWA.

Stewart Edward " Stu " Hart, CM ( May 3, 1915 – October 16, 2003 ) was a Canadian amateur wrestler, professional wrestler, promoter and trainer.

" The patriarch of the Hart wrestling family, Stu was the father of many wrestlers, most notably Bret and Owen Hart.

Stu Hart began amateur wrestling when he joined the YMCA in Edmonton in 1929.

In 2005 the City of Saskatoon announced that a street in the city's new Blairmore Suburban Centre development will be named Hart Road in Stu Hart's honor.

He received training in Calgary from the legendary Stu Hart, followed by his arrival in the United States in 1970.

While being scouted by the Canadian Football League's Calgary Stampeders, Graham was encouraged by Bob Roop to train with Stu Hart for his Stampede Wrestling promotion.

His father initially tried to deter him, but eventually ceded to his wishes and sent him to Canada in 1970 to train under Stu Hart in Calgary.

Smith was trained by Ted Betley in Winwick, England before relocating to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to further his training under Stu Hart.

While training with Hart, Smith met Stu and Helen Hart's youngest daughter Diana, whom he married in 1984.

He was then spotted by Bruce Hart scouting talent in the UK and travelled to Canada to wrestle for Stu Hart with his cousin.

Stu Hart and Roy Wood trained Smith further in his " Dungeon " and Smith became a key wrestler in Hart's promotion, Stampede Wrestling.

Following the end of his football career, Pillman remained in Canada and began training as a wrestler under Stu Hart and his sons.

In WWF publications of the era, Bret's father Stu Hart, long known as a trainer in the game, was generally given credit for devising the move.

His father, Isadore (" Ido ") Ungar, was a loan shark who ran a bar / social club called Foxes Corner that doubled as a gambling establishment, exposing Stu to gambling at a young age.

Originally established by Stu Hart in 1948, the promotion competed with other promotions such as NWA All-Star Wrestling and Pacific Northwest Wrestling and regularly ran events in Calgary's Victoria Pavilion, Ogden Auditorium and the Stampede Corral between 1948 and 1984.
