A major pay-per-view event occurred on September 16, 1981, when Sugar Ray Leonard fought Thomas " Hitman " Hearns for the Welterweight Championship.

In addition to children's projects and play, a replica of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello has been constructed with more than 2, 500 bricks of Play-Doh, and, to celebrate Play-Doh's fiftieth anniversary in 2006, a larger-than-life birthday cake with more than 40 pounds of Play-Doh as its main ingredient was " baked " at New York City's American International Toy Fair by Warren Brown, host of Food Network's Sugar Rush.

* September 16-A much anticipated bout takes place, and Sugar Ray Leonard unifies his WBC world Welterweight title with the WBA one by knocking out the WBA's champion Thomas Hearns in round fourteen at Las Vegas.

Three of the most famous cases of a fighter using the bolo punch were when Leonard avenged his loss to Roberto Durán ( see " The No Más Fight "), when Leonard drew with Thomas Hearns in their second fight ( see Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns ), and when Ike Ibeabuchi knocked out Chris Byrd with a left-handed bolo punch during their 1999 heavyweight contest.

The Superdome has been the venue of several major boxing events, such as when Muhammad Ali won the world Heavyweight title for the third time by beating Leon Spinks in their rematch, the rematch between Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran and the Wilfredo Gomez-Lupe Pintor, Thomas Hearns-Wilfred Benitez doubleheader.

Among these were " Let It All Hang Out " ( a cover of the 1967 track by The Hombres ), " It Only Takes A Minute " ( a cover of Tavares ' track ) as One Hundred Ton And A Feather, " Sugar, Sugar " as Sakkarin, " Loop di Love " as Shag, " Hooked on a Feeling " ( a cover of the track by B J Thomas ), " Lazybones ", " It's The Same Old Song " ( originally by Four Tops ) as The Weathermen and " The Sun Has Got His Hat On " as Nemo.

On September 16, 1981, he fought on the undercard of the legendary fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns.

This was successful, so Thomas R. Cutler, George Austin, and Mosiah Evans, executives at the Utah Sugar Company, purchased a portion of the Bear River Irrigation Company and organized the Bear River Land, Orchard and Sugar Beet Company in 1900.
