This event cleared the way for Carte, Gilbert and Sullivan to form the D ' Oyly Carte Opera Company, which then produced all of their succeeding operas.

With W. S. Gilbert writing the libretti and Sullivan composing the music, the pair produced 14 comic operas, which were later called Savoy Operas.

The two then went their separate ways, and Sullivan produced his Festival Te Deum ( 1872 ), an oratorio, The Light of the World ( 1873 ), and other pieces, including incidental music for West End productions of several Shakespeare plays.

Anne Sullivan is an integral character in The Miracle Worker, by William Gibson, originally produced for television, where she was portrayed by Teresa Wright.

Since Bond had little experience as an actress, Gilbert and Sullivan cut the dialogue out of the role, except for a few lines in the last scene, which they turned into recitative.

The production starred Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet. The trio appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and sang a few numbers from the musical, along with an appearance by Lerner and Loewe.

Busy with last-minute cuts and changes the day before the show opened, Sullivan had no time to write an overture and used the " Graceful Dance " music from his incidental music to Henry VIII, together with a few measures of music from " Oh Marvellous Illusion ", as an overture.

Despite grueling rehearsals over the next few days, and suffering from exhaustion, Sullivan conducted the opening performance on 5 January 1884 and collapsed from exhaustion immediately afterwards.

Only in 1958 was his entire repertoire published in one edition by Donal O ' Sullivan, and even then few lyrics were given and some of the tunes were edited to make them fit the treble register.

Even reruns of variety shows have generally not been particularly widespread ; TV Land telecast briefly some variety shows ( namely The Ed Sullivan Show and The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour ) upon its beginning in 1996, but within a few years, those reruns stopped.

Sullivan did not respond but instead filed this " libel " suit a few days later.

Officials cited several factors: the heavy traffic on Route 17 that weekend for both the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival in Sullivan County and the observances of the anniversary of Rabbi Joel Teitelbaum's death in Kiryas Joel, a few miles to the west.
