It began when the ruler of Wei, Cao Cao, was defeated by Liu Bei and Sun Quan at the Battle of Red Cliffs.

Liu Bei and Sun Quan declared themselves emperor of Shu and Wu respectively.

On his deathbed, he named his younger brother, Sun Quan, as his heir.

After Cao's defeat at the naval Battle of Red Cliffs in 208 CE, China was divided into three spheres of influence, with Cao Cao dominating the north, Sun Quan ( 182 – 252 CE ) dominating the south, and Liu Bei ( 161 – 223 CE ) dominating the west.

He became the Commandant of the Kuomintang's Whampoa Military Academy, and took Sun's place as leader of the KMT when Sun died in 1925.

Sun Yat-sen died on March 12, 1925, creating a power vacuum in the Kuomintang.

Kuomintang ideology promoted the view that the souls of Party martyrs who died fighting for the Kuomintang, the revolution, and the party founder Dr. Sun Yatsen were sent to heaven.

Cotten starred with Jennifer Jones in four films: the wartime domestic drama Since You Went Away ( 1944 ), the romantic drama Love Letters ( 1945 ), the western Duel in the Sun ( 1946 ), and the critically acclaimed Portrait of Jennie ( 1948 ), in which he played a melancholy artist who becomes obsessed with a girl who may have died many years ago.

The Kuomintang used traditional Chinese religious ceremonies, the souls of Party martyrs who died fighting for the Kuomintang and the revolution and the party founder Dr. Sun Yatsen were sent to heaven according to the Kuomintang party.

When party leader Sun Yat-Sen died in May 1925, he was succeeded by a rightist, Chiang Kai-shek ( 1887 – 1977 ), who was opposed to Mao's involvement.

Midnight died as a result of their second battle, but was later resurrected as " Midnight Sun " by the alien Kree in cloned body and gifted with cosmic powers strong enough to challenge the Silver Surfer.

He died at Sebastopolis, and was buried there, near the Temple of the Sun.

Soon after, Liu Biao died while Cao Cao was preparing a major campaign to subjugate both Liu Biao and Sun Quan under his control, precipitating a major confrontation.

Sun Quan did agree to Zhou Yu's plans to consider attacking Liu Zhang and Zhang Lu ( who controlled the modern southern Shaanxi ) to try to take over their territories, but after Zhou Yu died in 210, the plans were abandoned.

Regretting his actions, Sun Quan tried to recall Yu Fan back to Jianye, only to learn that Yu had died in exile.

Later in 241, the crown prince Sun Deng died — an event that left open the issue of succession and appeared to mark the start of a precipitous decline in Sun Quan's mental health.

Fanned by gossip from his daughter Sun Dahu ( 孫大虎 ), Sun Quan blamed the princes ' mother Consort Wang for this — and she died in fear.

Later that year, Sun Quan died at the age of 70, and Sun Liang succeeded him.

In the movie The Weird Man by the Shaw Brothers Sun Quan is shown at the end of film and Sun Ce names him successor before he died from his injuries sustained by Xu Gong and Yu Ji's spirit.

" Sun died in 1925 with no clear successor and leadership of the government, now named the Nationalist Government, rested in a series of Leninist-style dual party and state committees, the most powerful of which was the policy-making Central Executive Committee of the Kuomintang.

* Sun Quan, founder of the Kingdom of Wu ( d. 252 )

Sun Quan ( 182 – 252 ), formally Emperor Da of Wu, was the founder of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history.

In 252, as Sun Quan neared death, Empress Pan was murdered, but how she was murdered remains a controversy.

The decline of Wu was long in existence since the death of Lu Xun in 245 and the death of Sun Quan in 252.

In 252, Sima Shi led a campaign against Eastern Wu, whose founding emperor Sun Quan had recently died, and the current ruler Sun Liang was under Zhuge Ke's regency.

However, in 252, he was part of a plot to overthrow the tyrannical Wu general, Sun Chen, and when his part in the plot was discovered, he committed suicide before he could be imprisoned and executed.

When he died at the age of sixty ( in 252 CE or shortly after ), the Wu ruler of the time, Sun Liang, is said to have written a letter to the monastic community mourning his death.

In 252, he made a major attack against Eastern Wu, whose founding emperor Sun Quan had recently died and whose current emperor, Sun Liang, was under the regency of Zhuge Ke.

After Sun Quan's death in 252, Sun Liang succeeded him, and Zhuge served as regent, as Sun Quan willed.

Later in 252, Zhuge rebuilt the Dongxing Dam ( 東興隄, in present-day Chaohu, Anhui ), which Sun Quan had initially built in 230 but which was destroyed in 241, to create a reservoir near the Chao Lake, with the dual purpose of using it as a defense against potential Cao Wei attacks and, with two castles built nearby, as forward attack mechanism for Eastern Wu ships.
