This work is composed of three one-act operas: a horrific episode ( Il tabarro ), in the style of the Parisian Grand Guignol, a sentimental tragedy ( Suor Angelica ), and a comedy ( Gianni Schicchi ).

She made her debut with the Metropolitan Opera on December 14, 1918, in the world premiere of Puccini's Il trittico, creating the role of Genovieffa in Suor Angelica, the second of the evening's three one-act operas.

On 26 September 1989, she sang all three soprano roles in Puccini's Trittico, Giorgetta in Il tabarro, Angelica in Suor Angelica and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi ( Met ).

She sang Fata Morgana in Sergei Prokofiev's The Love for Three Oranges in Chicago and Florence, and went on to sing in such operas as Prokofiev's The Gambler and Puccini's Suor Angelica, in the latter as the Zia Principessa.

Il trittico ( The Triptych ) is the title of a collection of three one-act operas, Il tabarro, Suor Angelica, and Gianni Schicchi, by Giacomo Puccini.

In this production Il tabarro was moved to 1927, Suor Angelica was set in 1938, and Gianni Schicchi was moved from 1299 to 1959.

However, by 1916 Puccini had completed the one-act tragedy Il tabarro and, after considering various ideas, he began work the following year on the solemn, religious, all-female opera Suor Angelica.

Gradually through the dialogues, Agnes begins to see Sister Angelica ’ s viewpoint and embraces her doctrines, she is freed from the sense of prejudice that she starts out with at the beginning of the book.
