Crafted by Bates and Cockrum, the feature proved popular and saw such events as the wedding of Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel in Superboy # 200 ( Feb 1974 ).

This story told the tale of the Legionnaire Reflecto ( only glimpsed during the " Adult Legion " stories in Adventure Comics ), featured villainy by the Time Trapper and Grimbor the Chainsman, and saw Superboy rejoin the team.

He was time-displaced in the 30th century where he saw various incarnations of The Legion of Super Heroes before being displaced again in present day Smallville where he encountered a still young and inexperienced modern day clone Superboy ( Kon-El ).

One night when they were camping together, Pete secretly saw Clark changing into Superboy to attend to an emergency.

Smallville was first named in Superboy ( volume 1 ) # 2 in 1949.

A storyline late in the run of New Adventures of Superboy sees Smallville's town council propose building Smallville's first shopping mall, though the mall's construction is revealed out to have sinister ulterior motives.

The farmtown was unnamed in the story ( as the name " Smallville " appeared for the first time two years later in Superboy ( volume 1 ) # 2 ); the nearest town actually named in the broadcast was the real-life Centerville.

Initially, the team was closely associated with the original Superboy ( Superman when he was a teenager ), and was first portrayed as a group of time travelers who frequently visited him.

The crossover was the first of several attempts by DC editors to explain the origins and fate of Superboy and his history with the Legion, in light of the revisions to the DC Universe caused by Crisis on Infinite Earths that removed Superman's career as Superboy from his personal history.

The Phantom Zone criminals first appeared in Adventure Comics ( Superboy stories ), and soon began appearing in Superman stories.

The Teen Titans spin-off title The Ravagers features Caitlin Fairchild and Warblade as part of the cast, while WildC. A. T. s villain Helspont appeared in Superman # 7 and # 8, Grunge first appeared in Superboy # 8, and Zealot first appeared in Deathstroke # 9.

The character was created by writer Otto Binder and artist George Papp as a " mirror image " of Superman and first appeared in Superboy # 68 ( 1958 ).

The original incarnation of Professor Potter was the maternal uncle of Lana Lang, and first encountered the Man of Steel during his teenage years as Superboy.

Superboy first appeared in More Fun Comics No. 101 ( 1944, with a 1945 cover date ).

Other notable stories to appear in Superboy include the story of the first Bizarro and the first appearances of Legion of Super-Heroes members Mon-El and Ultra Boy.

After the Legion took over Superboy, the Superboy feature was nearly moribund until the late 1970s, when it appeared in two short runs, first in Adventure Comics ( again ) and then in Superman Family.

Then, in the same month Superboy left the Legion in Legion of Super-Heroes No. 259 ( Jan 1980 ), a new series entitled The New Adventures of Superboy debuted, with the first issue depicting Clark Kent celebrating his sixteenth birthday.

As a teenager, Clark assists stranded space traveler Mon-El, whom he first believes to be his older brother from Krypton, in a story that is similar to Mon-El's first appearance in Superboy No. 89 ( 1961 ).

The Legion co-feature in the first issue of the revived Adventure Comics reveals that when Clark does join the Legion, he is known as Superboy.

In these two issues, Clark is depicted as donning his costume for the first time, working in secret ( and in costume ) as a superhero in and around Smallville, joining the Legion of Super-Heroes as Superboy, and finding Krypto when the superdog lands on Earth.

In the first press reports about Clark's life-saving super-deeds, the press refers to Clark ( whose identity is unknown ) as " Superboy.

In comics Superbaby and Wonder Tot had appeared in Superboy and Wonder Woman comics from the 1950s and 1960s respectively.

In the origin story printed in Adventure Comics # 271 ( April 1960 ), young Lex Luthor is shown as an aspiring scientist who resides in Smallville, the hometown of Superboy.

* Queen Lucy, Super-Girl — In Superboy # 5 ( November – December 1949 ) in a story titled " Superboy Meets Supergirl ", Superboy meets Queen Lucy of the fictional Latin American nation of Borgonia.

* Claire Kent — In the Superboy # 78 story titled " Claire Kent, Alias Super-Sister ", Superboy saves an alien woman named Shar-La from a life-threatening crash.

In the Superboy story in Superman Family # 195 ( May-June 1979 ), Interstate 70 is shown as running through or near Smallville, as Lana and Clark drive along the highway.

Although intended as a one-off story focusing on Superboy, the Legion proved so popular that it returned for an encore in Adventure Comics # 267 ( December 1959 ).

Superboy's adventures in Adventure Comics include the story of how he was reunited with his pet superdog, Krypto ; the story of how his friend, the teenage scientist Lex Luthor, becomes his most bitter foe ; and how Superboy joins the 30th-century Legion of Super-Heroes.

The feature soon dominated the comic and forced out original Superboy features, with the last new Superboy story appearing in No. 315 ( Dec 1963 ).

Several months after the last issue of The New Adventures of Superboy, a four-issue miniseries was published called Superman: The Secret Years ( 1985 ), which tells the story of how Superboy becomes Superman during his junior year of college.

Later editorial mandates that removed Superboy from the history of the Legion led to a story where the Time Trapper is apparently erased from history, wiping the Pocket Universe and that universe's Superboy from existence.

Unlike the Superboy story, Lex does not lose his hair in a disfiguring lab accident that he blames on Clark.

In 1993, during DC Comics's Death of Superman story, a new Superboy was introduced.

** Legion of Superboys: Different versions of Superboy from throughout Hypertime, including both Kon-El and Kal-El, team up in the unofficial " Legion of Superboys " to fight Black Zero in the " Hypertension " story arc.

From 1989 to 1991, DC Comics published a comic series based on the TV series Superboy ( 1988 – 1992 ) about a college-age Superboy.

On July 27, 2007, the courts ruled in favor of Warner Bros ' decision to appeal the previous ruling and dismissed some of the Siegel estate's claims about the Superboy character.

The legal issues regarding the character may also be a factor in the decision by Warner Bros. not to release any further seasons of the syndicated Superboy TV series beyond season 1 to DVD ; the first season was issued in 2006 at about the time the legal wrangling began.

* In December 1953, when a meteor is about to destroy Venus, Superboy smashes it and visits Venus to quench his thirst.

Meanwhile back in the past Cyborg makes a deal with Skynet-leaving a message in a Terminator's skull about Superman's weaknesses and subsequently allying himself with a T-X sent back from the future to assist him -, while Supergirl, Superboy, and even Lex Luthor continue to protect Sarah and young John from wave after wave of Terminator cyborgs, the later models being specifically upgraded to cope with the Superman family.

Larson has always been willing to sit for interviews about the Superman series and his connection to it, and in recent years has had a number of cameos that pay subtle tribute to his character and the series including a 1991 episode of the TV series Superboy alongside Noel Neill, who had played Lois Lane in Adventures of Superman, and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman as an aged Jimmy Olsen in the episode " Brutal Youth ", first telecast on October 20, 1996.

Ironically, the series came about a year after DC Comics had " erased " the character of Superboy from their continuity in The Man of Steel reboot by John Byrne.
