From the late 1980s through the early 2000s, the number of survivors was reduced to Superman himself in the comic book stories ( the Eradicator was added in 1989 as a nonsentient device, and shown to be self-aware in 1991 ), but more recent accounts have restored Supergirl, Krypto, and Kandor, and introduced another newly discovered survivor, Karsta Wor-Ul.

The Silver Age Superman was not alone in the survival of Krypton's destruction, being joined by his cousin Supergirl, the Phantom Zone criminals, Beppo the super-monkey, Krypto the Superdog, a juvenile delinquent named Dev-Em, and the entire population of the city of Kandor, Supergirl's real parents and even Superman's real parents ( in hibernation on a space ship-Superboy # 158 July-1969 ), When the planet exploded, one entire city of Krypton, Argo City, survived the cataclysm.

This was reversed after 2003 when it was revealed that Superboy ( Conner Kent ) was half Kryptonian and then in 2004 when Supergirl ( Kara Zor-El ) arrived on Earth.

For Supergirl this was not a major problem initially since the character had died in the Crisis.

The show further featured " alternate " versions of DC Comics in the episode " Over There, Part 2 ", specifically an inversion of the famous cover of Superman carrying the body of Supergirl suggesting in Fringe's " alternate " universe that it was Superman who was killed as part of the crisis, while Supergirl survived.

Destiny lost the Book of Destiny in the opening storyline of the new Brave and the Bold series, and when Lobo and Supergirl arrive in his garden he speaks about how it was intended to reach the four men who existed outside its pages, in the process waylaid by the Luck Lords in a bid to reshape reality.

Following the cancellation of the third Supergirl comic book series, starring the Linda Danvers version of the character, a modern version of Kara Zor-El was reintroduced into the DC Comics continuity in issue # 8 of the Superman / Batman comic book series titled " The Supergirl from Krypton " ( 2004 ).

In the story, Lois wears a short blond wig in her crime-fighting identity, giving her an appearance almost identical to the later version of Supergirl after the latter's real name was specified as Kara Zor-El.

Like Supergirl, Mary Marvel was a teen-age female version of an adult male superhero, wearing a costume that was identical to the older character's other than substituting a short skirt for tight trousers.

David wrote in his December 13, 2006 blog entry, " Any fans of my run on Supergirl — particularly those who are torqued because Linda Danvers was consigned to oblivion in the DCU -- must, must, MUST pick up " Fallen Angel " # 14 and # 15 when they come out next year.

* Laurel Gand ( Andromeda ) – Laurel Gand was the post-Crisis / Glorithverse replacement for the pre-Crisis Supergirl in the Legion of Super-Heroes after the latter was removed from the continuity following The Man of Steel reboot of Superman.

The first live action depiction of Supergirl was in the eponymous 1984 film, starring Helen Slater as Supergirl.

Also according to producer Bruce Timm, they wanted to use Supergirl early in the series but the producers put it off until late in the second season with the only exception was that she could not come from Krypton.

Even Supergirl was recruited as a member.

Farrow also played Alura, mother of Kara ( Helen Slater ), in Supergirl ( 1984 ) and voiced the title role in the animated film The Last Unicorn ( 1982 ).

Protective of his sister, Luthor takes measures to hide his fraternity, and is assisted towards this end by both Superman and Supergirl.

In 1969, Supergirl's adventures became the lead feature in Adventure Comics, and she later starred in an eponymous comic book series which debuted in 1972 and ran until 1974, followed by a second monthly comic book series titled The Daring New Adventures of Supergirl, which ran from 1982 to 1984.

A new Supergirl series, written by Jeph Loeb, began publication in August 2005.

The evil Supergirl implies that Kara's family sent her to Earth to kill Kal-El as revenge for a family grudge ; at the time, Kara herself refuses to believe this, but later flashbacks indicate that not only is this partly true, but Kara had been physically altered by her father as a child before being involved in several murders on Krypton.

After she is adopted by Fred and Edna Danvers, Superman decides his cousin is ready to begin operating openly as Supergirl.

In Superman v2, # 16 ( April 1988 ), a new Supergirl debuted as a man-made lifeform made of synthetic protoplasm created by a heroic Lex Luthor of a " pocket continuum ".

Beginning in September 1996, DC published a Supergirl title written by Peter David.

The 1996 Supergirl comic revamped the previous Matrix Supergirl by merging her with a human being, resulting in a new Supergirl.

Peter David's creator-owned series Fallen Angel, published by DC Comics, features a character, Lee, who is similar to Linda and explores the same themes as his Supergirl series.

According to an interview with Newsarama, the Matrix Supergirl is wiped from existence by the events depicted in the 2005 limited series Infinite Crisis, although Infinite Crisis writer Geoff Johns later stated that Danvers is not.

Hal, along with Green Arrow and later Supergirl, Captain Marvel Jr., and Batwoman are then recruited by Ray Palmer to investigate a murder of a former colleague carried out on orders from Prometheus.

The Legion's last appearance in Adventure Comics was # 380 ( May 1969 ), and they were displaced by Supergirl in the next issue.

The 30th century would also have more dealings with the Phantom Zone, in one instance ( Action Comics # 287, April 1962 ), it is used by a race of shapechangers to imprison Supergirl.

Supergirl is a female counterpart to Superman.

Supergirl ( Kryptonian name Kara Zor-El ) plays a supporting role in various DC Comics publications, including Action Comics, Superman, and several comic book series unrelated to Superman.

Following the conclusion of Crisis on Infinite Earths, several different characters written as having no familial relationship to Superman have assumed the role of Supergirl, including Matrix, Linda Danvers, and Cir-El.
