The CBS Saturday morning series The New Adventures of Superman produced by Filmation Studios — as well as The Adventures of Superboy from the same animation house — featured the iconic " shirt rip " to reveal the " S " or Clark Kent removing his unbuttoned white dress shirt in a secluded spot, usually thanks to stock animation which was re-used over dozens of episodes, to reveal his costume underneath while uttering his famed line " This is a job for Superman!

Lex later sends Bizarro after the newly arrived " Superboy ", only for the creature to be defeated by Superman.

With Superboy's aid, Luthor manages to cure Lena, allowing her to walk and think logically again for a brief moment, before he then quickly reverses the process, leaving Lena completely catatonic, and informs Superboy that so long as Superman is alive, he will never reveal how he did it.

Luthor engages battle with the Black Lantern versions of Superman and Superboy.

Lex even goes so far as to cure Lena's illness, and then immediately undoes the process, leaving her completely catatonic, solely in order to make a mocking point to Superboy and Superman.

However, he falls to a carefully planned counter-attack, culminating in a battle with Kal-L ( the Earth-Two Superman ), Alexander Luthor of Earth-Three, and Superboy of Earth-prime, with some unexpected last-second help from the New Gods ' adversary, Darkseid.

As the Anti-Monitor crashes into a star and dies, Alex sends himself, Earth-Two Superman, Earth-Two Lois Lane, and Earth-Prime Superboy into a paradise reality.

* Superman # 8: Superman was referred to mistakenly as Superboy ( the young Clark Kent from the Time Trapper's pocket universe ) by the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Smallville is the setting of many Superboy comics, which depict the original Superboy ( Superman as a boy ) defending Smallville from various evils and occasionally, the young Lex Luthor.

Smallville is retroactively shown as the Golden Age Superman's childhood hometown as well, as seen in the " Mr. and Mrs. Superman " series in Superman Family, as well as in New Adventures of Superboy # 15-16 ( March – April 1981 ).

Unlike Earth-One's Smallville, Earth-Two's Smallville stays a much less prominent small town since the Earth-Two Superman was never Superboy.

In the Superboy story in Superman Family # 195 ( May-June 1979 ), Interstate 70 is shown as running through or near Smallville, as Lana and Clark drive along the highway.

Initially, the team was closely associated with the original Superboy ( Superman when he was a teenager ), and was first portrayed as a group of time travelers who frequently visited him.

The most notable addition to the team during the title's publication was the post -" Crisis " Superboy, a 21st century clone of Superman and Lex Luthor who had previously been granted honorary membership.

Though several differences between the original and Lightning Saga Legions exist, Geoff Johns stated that this incarnation of the Legion shares the same history as the original Legion up to the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, with Clark Kent having joined the team as the teenage Superboy prior to the start of his career as Superman.

In the 1990s, Ely ’ s roles included a retired Superman from an alternate reality in the 1991 two-part episode " The Road to Hell " of the Superboy syndicated television series, and a big game hunter named Gordon Shaw in the 1992 episode " Tarzan the Hunted " of the syndicated Tarzán TV series ( starring Wolf Larson ).

The Phantom Zone criminals first appeared in Adventure Comics ( Superboy stories ), and soon began appearing in Superman stories.

The three villains later return in a " lost season " episode from 1983 titled " Return of the Phantoms " in which they hijack an alien's time-space conveyor and go back in time to Smallville and attack Superboy to prevent him from becoming Superman.

The Teen Titans spin-off title The Ravagers features Caitlin Fairchild and Warblade as part of the cast, while WildC. A. T. s villain Helspont appeared in Superman # 7 and # 8, Grunge first appeared in Superboy # 8, and Zealot first appeared in Deathstroke # 9.

Lar Gand, known primarily as Mon-El ( and alternatively as Valor and M ' Onel ), is a fictional character in DC Comics ' universe who is associated with the Legion of Super-Heroes, Superboy, and Superman.

The character was created by writer Otto Binder and artist George Papp as a " mirror image " of Superman and first appeared in Superboy # 68 ( 1958 ).

* Action Comics Number 579, published by DC Comics in 1986, written by Lofficier and Illustrated by Keith Giffen, featured an homage to Asterix where Superman and Jimmy Olsen are drawn back in time to a small village of indomitable Gauls.

Sometimes these are spin-offs from comic books, for example Superman, Batman and The Amazing Spider-Man.

* The explanation most commonly offered is simply that, despite their physical resemblance, Superman and Clark are perceived as being too different in mannerisms and personality to be the same individual.

The 2004 series Superman: Birthright also explained that Superman's eyes are an inhumanly vivid shade of blue, which Clark's glasses diffuse to make his eyes appear more human.

* Neither Clark Kent nor Superman is the real person: Some versions of Superman explain that Clark Kent and Superman are both identities of the same person.

In the 1940s Superman shorts, Clark is shown to have a wisecraking sense of humor and he and Lois are good friends.

The remaining fragments are wrapped in lead and hurled into the sun by Superman himself, except for one fragment, which Superman gives to Batman.

When Lois Lane and Clark Kent are invited to a society gala aboard Luthor's yacht, terrorists seize the ship without warning, forcing Superman to intervene.

Luthor observes Superman in action, and once the gunmen are dispatched, hands the hero a personal check in an attempt to hire him.

However, in the 2009-2010 series Superman: Secret Origin, Lex, his father, and his sister Lena Luthor are poor and Lionel is an abusive alcoholic.

However, the crowd turns on the Army, and Superman orders the crowd to stop, telling them that they, not the Army, not Lex Luthor, nor himself, are meant to be Metropolis's saviors.

In the pre-Crisis continuity, Lex Luthor's driving ambitions are to kill Superman and enslave Earth as a stepping stone to dominating the universe.

WB also owns Superman's publisher, DC Comics, and although the Superman cartoons are now in the public domain, WB owns the original film elements.

The latter two titles are now owned by WB for all media, but Superman IV is still part of Paramount's library for over-the-air TV and digital rights ( though WB did handle these rights for a three-year license 2006 – 09 );

Thus by the early 1980s Superman was in his 60s and the Batman had died and been succeeded by his daughter, The Huntress, whereas the Superman and Batman of Earth-One, DC's primary universe, are perpetually young to early middle-age adults.

Some, like Superman and the Fantastic Four, are adored and seen as important civic leaders.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dickinson stated that her agent Monique Pilar of Elite Model Management asked her, " Janice, who do you think you are, Superman?

In superhero fiction, eyeglasses have become a standard component of various heroes ' disguises, allowing them to adopt a nondescript demeanor when they are not in their superhero persona: Superman is well known for wearing 1950s style horn-rimmed glasses as Clark Kent, while Wonder Woman wears either round, Harold Lloyd style glasses or 1970s style bug-eye glasses as Diana Prince.

* Depictions of Krypton on both The New Adventures of Superman and Super Friends are generally similar to those of the pre-Crisis comic books.

* In Superman: The Animated Series, " The Last Son of Krypton ", the first part of a three-part pilot episode, depicts Krypton as being basically similar to the pre-Crisis version ( it was scientifically advanced, Kal-El appeared to be about one to two years old as in the Silver Age comics, there are depictions of peculiar animals ) although with elements of the John Byrne version ( such as the appearance of the characters ' wardrobe ).

Male Kryptonians are shown wearing unique symbols on the chests of their robes, similar to a family crest ; Jor-El and Kal-El after him wear the familiar S-shield, which Lois Lane later assumes to be the letter S from the familiar Latin alphabet, and thus dubs him Superman.
