The Beatles developed along similar lines, creating various modernist musical effects on several albums, while musicians such as Frank Zappa, Syd Barrett and Captain Beefheart proved even more experimental.

Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys ( whose much anticipated Smile project would not emerge until 2004 ), Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac and Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd were early " acid casualties ", helping to shift the focus of the respective bands of which they had been leading figures.

Unable to finalise a third album, Shields isolated himself and, in his own words, went " crazy ", drawing comparisons in the music press to the behavior of musicians such as Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd.

Bolan, by now married to his girlfriend June Child ( a former secretary to the manager of another of his heroes, Syd Barrett ), bought a vintage Gibson Les Paul guitar ( featured on the cover of the album T. Rex ), wrote and recorded " Ride a White Swan " which was dominated by a rolling hand-clapping back-beat, Bolan's electric guitar and Finn's percussion, and shortened the group's name to T. Rex.

The Amazing Pudding () was a Pink Floyd and Roger Waters fan magazine ( with frequent discussion of the other band members ' solo careers, including that of Syd Barrett ), founded by Ivor Trueman and edited and published, variously, by him ( issues 1-17 ), Andy Mabbett ( issues 2-60 ), Bruno MacDonald ( issues 24-60 ) and Dave Walker ( issues 13-60 ), for ten years ( and 60 issues ).

Trueman also published the Syd Barrett magazine, Opel, before founding Delerium Records.

In interviews East Bay Ray has cited the playing of Syd Barrett on Pink Floyd's first album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, as well as the music of the Ohio Players, and the guitar playing of Elvis Presley side-man Scotty Moore ( with his trademark echo ), as influences.

He has recorded a series of albums as a solo artist and over the years has worked with Brian Eno, Syd Barrett, John Cale, Elton John, Robert Wyatt, Andy Summers, Mike Oldfield, Nico and Ollie Halsall, among others.

Klose confirmed in John Edginton's BBC documentary The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story that his guitar can be heard on the unreleased early acetate single " Lucy Leave /" I'm a King Bee ".

The group's overall sound combined with Ka-Spel's distinct lyrics and singing have earned comparisons to Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett ; the group also has links to the sounds of krautrock bands such as Can, Faust, Brainticket, Magma or Neu!

Bowie's influences at this stage of his career included the theatrical tunes of Anthony Newley, music hall numbers by acts like Tommy Steele, some of the more whimsical and ' British ' material by Ray Davies of The Kinks, Syd Barrett's slightly cracked nursery rhymes for the early Pink Floyd, and the Edwardian flam shared by such contemporary songs as The Beatles ' " Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite ".

Blackhill Enterprises was a rock music management company, founded as a partnership by the four original members of Pink Floyd ( Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright ), with Peter Jenner and Andrew King.

After Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd, the partnership was dissolved, and Jenner and King continued Blackhill to manage Barrett.
