While he was in Pakistan Prison, Syed Nazrul Islam was the acting President with Tazuddin Ahmed as the Prime Minister.

Syed Nazrul Islam was born in 1925 at Jashodal Dampara in the Kishoreganj District ( then Mymensingh District ) of the province of Bengal.

" Syed Nazrul Islam served as acting president ( Mujib was declared president ), Tajuddin Ahmad served as prime minister and Ahmad was made foreign minister.

Khondaker also ordered the imprisonment of pro-Mujib leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, A. H. M. Qamaruzzaman and Muhammad Mansur Ali.

He is also known to be responsible for the heinous killing of the four national leaders, who led the country during the liberation war in absence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, former Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tajuddin Ahmed and Captain Muhammad Mansur Ali, and former interior minister A H M Qamaruzzaman on 3 November 1975 inside the Dhaka Central Jail, commemorated as Jail Killing Day.

On November 3, in what became infamously known as the " Jail Killing Day ", Ahmad and Syed Nazrul Islam, A. H. M. Qamaruzzaman and Muhammad Mansur Ali were killed by a group of army officers on the instruction of President Ahmed.

However, the jail earned infamy after the killings of four political leaders — A. H. M. Qamaruzzaman, Tajuddin Ahmad, Syed Nazrul Islam and Captain Muhammad Mansur Ali — on the eve of a military counter-coup on November 3, 1975 against the regime of president Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad and army chief Ziaur Rahman, which had seized power on August 15 after the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Those jailed and later assassinated inside the jail premises were Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Muhammad Mansur Ali and AHM Qamaruzzaman.

Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, KCSI () born Syed Ahmad Taqvi (), on October 17, 1817 – died March 27, 1898, commonly known as Sir Syed, was an Indian educator and politician, and an Islamic reformer and modernist.

Prior to the Hindi – Urdu controversy, he was Interested in the education of Muslims and Hindus both and this was the period in which Sir Syed visualised India as a beautiful bride whose one eye was Hindu and the other Muslim and due to this stance Sir Syed was regarded as a reformer and nationalist leader but there was a sudden change in his policies after the Hindi – Urdu controversy.
