The UMP-led government decided to follow that recommendation, but with the return of the Socialist Party to government and the nomination of Hubert Védrine, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, favoured the augmentation of existing outlets such as TV5, which started to produced its own programming, notably its news bulletins, which in turn created its own news team.

In January 1992 TV5 underwent a major overhaul including re-branding as " TV5MONDE " to stress its focus as a global network (" Monde " is French for " World ").

Along with French channels TF1, Antenne 2, FR 3 and Swiss channel SSR, RTBF jointly established the European French-speaking channel TV5 in 1984.

In 1987, then-French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac expressed his desire for an international television news channel in French and had requested a report into the activities of current international broadcasts from France ( Radio France Internationale, TV5, and to a certain extent, Réseau France Outre-Mer ), and noted the collective offering was " fragmented, disorganised and ineffective ".

One month later, a parliamentary commission gave its conclusion, voted with a unanimous decision by its members in the National Assembly, to form a public-owned corporation ( groupement d ' intérêt public ) grouping all of the public broadcasters ( France Télévisions, RFO, RFI, TV5 and AFP ) with the goal of launching the channel at the end of 2004.

In 2011 Cruz joined the cast of the new television series Mga Nagbabagang Bulaklak for TV5.

Hence VHF networks are sometimes informally referred to by the channel number they are seen on terrestrial TV in the Mega Manila area ( e. g. Channel 2 or Dos for ABS-CBN, Channel 5 or Singko for TV5, and Channel 7 or Siyete for GMA Network ) while some networks have the channel numbers in their name ( e. g. TV5, Studio 23 and Net 25 which are seen on channels 23 and 25 respectively ).

It is also used on the Bell Canada and the current TV5 ( Philippines ) logo.

In the Philippines, the name is still " Bob the Builder " and it is broadcast on TV5.

In South Korea, ISP provider Qrix offers TV5 on its premium HD cable package and will begin offering it via IPTV from Feb. 16.

His current show is Vivement Dimanche, every Sunday afternoon on France 2 and TV5 Monde.

The show is rebroadcast in Canada on TV5.
