As their home during their stay in the Cape, they had selected ' Feldhausen ', an old estate on the south-east side of Table Mountain.

On Jan. 20, while the craft was still in daylight, the TV camera clearly saw two laser beams aimed at it from the night side of the crescent Earth, one from Kitt Peak National Observatory, Tucson, Arizona, and the other at Table Mountain at Wrightwood, California.

Table Mountain ( Afrikaans: Tafelberg ) is a flat-topped mountain forming a prominent landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town in South Africa, and is featured in the Flag of Cape Town and other local government insignia.

The main feature of Table Mountain is the level plateau approximately from side to side, edged by impressive cliffs.
