The race goes ahead and Ayrton Senna is killed in a crash at the Tamburello corner.

Twenty minutes into Saturday's final qualifying session, Roland Ratzenberger died when he crashed his Simtek at the curva Villeneuve ; during the race, his mentor Ayrton Senna crashed his Williams at Tamburello and also died.

At Imola, he overcame spinning his car to start in 10th but was disqualified when mechanics worked on his car during a red flag stint caused by the accident of Gerhard Berger at Tamburello.

In 1996 their release of the CD Tamburello by Peter King won the BT Jazz CD of the year award, it was inspired by the death of Ayrton Senna.
