All 479th TTW aircraft carried the " HM " tail code.

On September 24 ( the last home game of the regular season ), Hoffman became the all-time saves leader when he recorded his 479th career save, breaking Lee Smith's record of 478 ( Hoffman's career total as of the end of the season was 482 ).

The United States Air Force 479th Tactical Fighter Wing at George AFB, California, ( 1952 – 1971 ) was bestowed the lineage, honors and history of the World War II USAAF 479th Fighter Group.

The LIFT program was sharply cut back in 1991, and the wing replaced by the 479th Fighter Group at Holloman, with the aircraft being consolidated under the 586th Flight Training Squadron.

The 479th was inactivated on 31 July 2000, with squadron resources absorbed by the 49th FW, later being transferred to the 46th Test Group as the 586th Flight Test Squadron.

It was the 479th most common name for all males in the United States in the 1990 census.

" While celebrating his record setting 479th save against the Pirates, Hoffman tipped his cap to the Pittsburgh dugout, particularly Pirates manager Jim Tracy, who managed Hoffman in Cincinnati's Double-A Chatanooga farm team in 1991 after he was converted to a pitcher.

Forty-two years after Combat Crew training ended at Moody, HQ ACC returned that mission to Moody with the activation of the 479th Flying Training Group under Nineteenth Air Force.

Later, the 479th Tactical Training Wing at Holloman AFB, New Mexico, ( 1977 – 1991 ) provided pilot training.

The 479th Fighter Group at Moody AFB, Georgia, ( 2000 – present ) currently stands on active duty today.

Following the divestiture of Specialized Undergraduate Navigator Training ( SUNT ) from the Air Force's 12 FTW at Randolph AFB and its relocation to NAS Pensacola as the 479th Flying Training Group, a geographically separated unit ( GSU ) of the 12 FTW, a select number of Student NFOs slated for the P-3, EP-3, and eventually the P-8 Poseidon are being sent directly to VP-30, the FRS for P-3s, EP-3s and the P-8, as part of a prototype advanced training program similar to that historically utilized by the E-2 community ( i. e., NFO " winging " at the FRS ), before beginning the normal FRS syllabus.

Today, all USAF Undergraduate CSO Training ( UCSOT ) for all USAF aircraft is consolidated at NAS Pensacola as a strictly USAF organization and operation under the 479th Flying Training Group ( 479 FTG ), an Air Education and Training Command ( AETC unit.

Along with the depot maintenance mission, Wattisham also hosted an Eighth Air Force fighter group, the 479th Fighter Group, arriving from Santa Maria AAF, California, on 15 May 1944.

The 479th FG escorted heavy bombers during operations against targets on the continent, strafed targets of opportunity, and flew fighter-bomber, area and counter-air patrol missions.

The 479th Fighter Group received a Distinguished Unit Citation for the destruction of numerous aircraft on airfields in France on 18 August and 5 September and during aerial battle near Münster on 26 September.

The HC-130 and HH-60G were used by the 347th Rescue Group, the T-6 and T-38 by the 479th Flying Training Group

On 2 April 2001, the 479th FTG expanded to a second squadron with the activation of the 3d Flying Training Squadron, flying the T-6A Texan II.

NAS Pensacola is host to the 479th Flying Training Group ( 479 FTG ) of the Air Education and Training Command ( AETC ).

The 479 FTG is composed of the 451st Flying Training Squadron, 455th Flying Training Squadron and 479th Operations Support Squadron.

Among the notable pilots of the 479th were its second group commander, Col. Hubert Zemke, and an ace, Major Robin Olds.

The 479th TFW deployed personnel and aircraft to Key West NAS, Florida, in response to the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and deployed squadrons frequently to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.

Morón received regular visits from Lockheed F-104C Starfighters of the 479th TFW from George AFB, California.

On 1 October 1991, the 355 TTW was redesignated as the 355th Fighter Wing ( 355 FW ) in tune with the Air Force's Objective Wing philosophy.

The enhanced 5084 TTW model appeared in 1987, and had an improved anti-vandal fascia and was the first ATM to dispense with the need for the retracting perspex screen.

The 425th TFTS was reassigned to the 405th Tactical Training Wing as of 29 August 1979 when the 58th TTW was re-designated at Luke AFB.

On 1 October 1991, the 56th TTW was redesignated as the 56th Fighter Wing ( 56 FW ).

On 1 October 1991, due to the implementation of the Objective Wing at Luke and the " One base, one wing " policy, the 405th TTW was shut down and the F-15s were reassigned back to the 58th TTW.

A reorganization in ATC on 1 Jan 1959 led to the 3415th TTW at Lowry be re-designated as the Lowry Technical Training Center.

Then, as part of SAC's intermediate headquarters and base-level reorganization plan, on 1 September 1991, SAC renamed the 28 BMW the 28th Wing ( 28 WG ), the 44 SMW the 44th Wing ( 44 WG ) and the 99 SWW the 99th Tactics and Training Wing ( 99 TTW ).

Various electric and hydraulic systems have been employed to modify TTW behaviour, with notable success on the Carver.
