In September 2002, the 48th, 55th, and the 79th Rescue Squadron's ( RQS ) transferred under control of the 355 WG, equipped with HC-130 aircraft and HH-60 helicopters.

Control of the 48th, 55th, and 79th Rescue Squadrons ( RQS ) was passed to the new group with the 23rd Wing ( 23 WG ) at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia assuming operational command of the unit.

Cuddeback, 21, of Stanardsville, Va., assigned to the 86th Vehicle Readiness Squadron at Ramstein Air Base, Germany were shot and killed by 21 year old Kosovo native of Albanian descent named Arif Ukaat at Frankfurt International Airport, Germany.
