In June 1634 whilst at Woolwich and on the Leopard with the King, Phineas Pett, Peter's father, relates: " His Highness, calling me aside, privately acquainted me of his princely resolution for the building of a great new ship, which he would have me undertake ...."

* However, the Duke of Brunswick, the head of the House of Hanover, refused to recognize the letters depriving his children of the British and Irish princely titles, and in 1931, he issued a decree, in the capacity of the head of the House of Hanover and senior male-line descendant of George III of the United Kingdom, stating that the members of the former Hanoverian royal family would continue to bear the title of Prince ( or Princess ) of Great Britain and Ireland with the style of Royal Highness.

* On 22 October 1948, George VI issued letters patent allowing the children of his son-in-law and daughter, Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh, to assume princely titles and the style Royal Highness ; they would not have been entitled to them ordinarily, as grandchildren in the female line, until their mother ascended the throne as Elizabeth II.

In Muslim princely states very few formal mirs have actually reached the level of salute state, notably in present Pakistan, where only two of the six have been entitled to a gun salute and the attached His Highness.

Monarchs below kingly rank are addressed as " Your / His / Her Highness ", the exact rank being indicated by an appropriate modifier, e. g. " His Serene Highness " for a member of a princely dynasty, or " Her Grand Ducal Highness " for a member of a family that reigns over a grand duchy.

Several morganatic branches of reigning German dynasties took up residence in the United Kingdom in the 19th century, where their German princely titles and style of Serene Highness were recognized by the sovereign.

During World War I, King George V revoked recognition of the style Serene Highness, hitherto used by some relatives of the British Royal Family who possessed German princely titles, but were British subjects.

In British practice, heads of princely states in the British Empire are referred to as Highness.

* His / Her Exalted Highness ( HEH ), used only by the Nizam of Hyderabad, the pre-eminent Indian princely ruler

With a personal gun salute of 9 guns, he was the only Hills " Raja " amongst India's upper class of princely salute states, but not entitled ( until independence in 1947 ) to the style of His Highness.

In addition, the right to style himself Highness ( Majesty, which since its Roman origin expresses the sovereign authority of the state, was denied to all " vassals "), a title of great importance in international relations, was formally restricted to rulers of relatively high salute ranks ( originally only those with 11 guns or more, later also those with nine guns ).

These letters patent state that henceforth only the children of the Sovereign, the children of the sons of the Sovereign, and the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales would " have and at all times hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of Royal Highness with their titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their respective Christian names or with their other titles of honour.

His Highness was also responsible for making Islam the state religion of Brunei.

When the state was formed, the then Maharaja of Patiala, His Highness Maharajadhiraj Yadavindra Singh was appointed its Rajpramukh ( equivalent to Governor ).

Duli Yang Maha Mulia ( DYMM ) is the royal title, equivalent to His Royal Highness, used to refer to state rulers in Malaysia.

Radhakrishnan Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who served as professor at Maharaja's College at Mysore during the early days of his career when the Maharaja was the Ruler has this to say: " His late Highness the Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar gave one the impression of a remote but enchanting spirit, who lived on hidden heights, even when dealing with concrete problems of the state.

His Royal Highness, Igwe Kenneth Orizu III is the first class chief in Anambra state from Nnewi as well as the vice Chairman of the Anambra State House of Chiefs.
