In 2002, activist and youth advocate Carl Siciliano founded the Ali Forney Center — a homeless shelter in New York City that is dedicated specifically to providing aid and shelter to homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth.

While homeless, Ali Forney protected other LGBTQ homeless youth by performing HIV prevention and awareness work.

In 1997, Ali Forney was himself murdered by an as-of-yet unidentified attacker.
