The Western Indo-Pacific covers the western and central portion of the Indian Ocean, including the Africa's east coast, the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and Andaman Sea, as well as the coastal waters surrounding Madagascar, the Seychelles, Comoros, Mascarene Islands, Maldives, and Chagos Archipelago.

Ritchie's Archipelago is a cluster of smaller islands which lie some east of Great Andaman, the main island group of the Andaman Islands.

Together with the rest of the Andamans, Ritchie's Archipelago is incorporated into the Indian union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and part of the Andaman district.

The islands of Ritchie's Archipelago run in a closely spaced arc which extends about from the southern-most Hugh Rose I. to North Button I., with the strait between them and Great Andaman ranging from to less than.

Havelock Island, with an area of 113. 93 km < sup > 2 </ sup >, is the largest of the islands which comprise Ritchie's Archipelago a chain of islands to the east of Great Andaman in the Andaman Islands.

The name is used for all of the Austronesian speaking tribes who inhabit the coast and islands in the Andaman Sea on the west coast of Thailand, the provinces of Satun, Trang, Krabi, Phuket, Phang Nga, and Ranong, up through the Mergui Archipelago of Burma ( Myanmar ).

The Sunda includes the South China Sea, the Andaman Sea, southern parts of Vietnam and Thailand along with Malaysia and the islands of Borneo, Sumatra, Java, and part of Celebes in Indonesia, plus the south-western Philippines islands of Palawan and the Sulu Archipelago.

Found in China ( Guangdong and Yunnan ), Myanmar, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, West Malaysia, Penang Island, Singapore Island, East Malaysia ( Sarawak ), Indonesia ( the Riau Archipelago, Bangka, Billiton, Sumatra, We, Simalur, Nias, the Mentawai Islands < nowiki >< nowiki ></ nowiki >, Borneo, Java and Sulawesi ) and the Philippines ( Balabac, Bongao, Jolo and Palawan ).

Their territories spanned most of the Great Andaman islands, including Ritche's Archipelago and Rutland Island but excluding Little Andaman ( inhabited by the Onge ) and the Sentinel Islands ( of the Sentinelese ).

The only places outside of Japan in which Y-haplogroup D is common are Tibet and the Andaman Islands in the Indian Ocean.

North Andaman Island is south of Burma, although a few smaller Burmese islands are closer, including the three Coco Islands.

After the completion of 58-billion dollar Dawei deep seaport, Burma is expected be at the hub of trade connecting Southeast Asia and the South China Sea, via the Andaman Sea, to the Indian Ocean receiving goods from countries in the Middle East, Europe and Africa, and spurring growth in the ASEAN region.

Roughly triangular in shape, it is bordered mostly by India and Sri Lanka to the west, Bangladesh to the north, and Burma ( Myanmar ) and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to the east.

The Andaman Sea or Burma Sea (, ; ;, ) is a body of water to the southeast of the Bay of Bengal, south of Burma ( Myanmar ), west of Thailand and east of the Andaman Islands, India ; it is part of the Indian Ocean.

Running in a rough north-south line on the seabed of the Andaman Sea is the boundary between two tectonic plates, the Burma plate and the Sunda Plate.

It is caused by the ongoing subduction of the India Plate beneath the Andaman island arc, which forces magma to rise in this location of the Burma Plate.

Trang ( also Muang Thap Thiang, ) is one of the southern provinces ( changwat ) of Thailand, on the western side of the Malay Peninsula facing the Andaman Sea.

The province is located on the coast of the Andaman Sea, and contains 46 islands together with the mainland area.

It stretches from the Lesser Sunda Islands past Java, around the southern coast of Sumatra on to the Andaman islands, about 300 km off the coasts of Java and Sumatra, and forms the boundary between Indo-Australian Plate and Eurasian plate ( more specific, Sunda Plate ), is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire and a ring of oceanic trenches around the northern edges of the Australian Plate.

However, after 1986, China withdrew support for the CPB and began supplying the military junta with the majority of its arms in exchange for increased access to Burmese markets and a rumoured naval base on Coco Islands in the Andaman Sea.

Unlike the neighboring Khmer and Burmese, the Thai continued to look outward across the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea toward foreign ports of trade.

The Salween (, ;, ; ; ; Shan: ;, ; also spelled Salwine ; Salawin, Thai ; Gyalmo Ngulchu, Tibetan ; Thanlwin, Burmese ; Nu Jiang, which means " Angry River " in Chinese ( The river is actually named after the Nu tribe that lives in the area but Chinese being no phonetic script had to use a character with a similar sound as Nu and that happen to be the character for angry ), is a river, about long, that flows from the Tibetan Plateau into the Andaman Sea in Southeast Asia.

He also claims that the several islands in the Andaman Sea, including the Coco Islands, which belong to Myanmar, were gifted by the former Prime Minister of India Nehru to the Burmese, rather than part of the original territory gained at Independence.

The Arakan Yoma highlands in Myanmar and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal were also formed as a result of this collision.

He also revealed the infamous " Operation Leech " incident, which resulted in the capture of Arakan Army insurgents on one of India's islands in the Andaman Sea.
