The Arkadiko Bridge is one of four Mycenaean corbel arch bridges part of a former network of roads, designed to accommodate chariots, between Tiryns to Epidauros in the Peloponnese, in Greece.

The earliest known arch bridges were built by the Greeks, and include the Arkadiko Bridge.

Possibly the oldest existing arch bridge is the Mycenaean Arkadiko bridge in Greece from about 1300 BC.

Other important rivers include the Acheron river, famous for its religious significance in ancient Greece and site of the Necromanteion, the Arachthos river, crossed by the historic Bridge of Arta, the Louros, the Thyamis or Kalamas, and the Voidomatis, a tributary of the Vjosë flowing through the Vikos Gorge.

The town is now connected to the mainland Greece by two bridges, the " Sliding Bridge " in the west at the narrowest point of the Euripus Strait and a suspension bridge.

An important market occupied the High Street from some time in the 13th century, which was controlled by the City's officers — it was later removed in order to improve traffic to the Bridge, under a separate Trust by Act of Parliament of 1756 as the Borough Market on the present site.

The River Torridge is spanned at Bideford by the 13th century Long Bridge, which has 24 arches all of different sizes.

Bideford's 13th century Long Bridge was temporarily converted into a railway bridge to carry the locomotives and rolling stock onto the main line railway near Bideford Station.

UNESCO's World Heritage Centre notes the Old Bridge ( Pont-Vieux ), the Saint-Salvi quarter, the quarter's church, the fortified cathedral ( late 13th century ) in unique southern French Gothic style from local brick, the bishop ’ s Palais de la Berbie, and residential quarters, which help the Episcopal City of Albi form a " coherent and homogeneous ensemble of monuments and quarters that has remained largely unchanged over the centuries ... a complete built ensemble representative of a type of urban development in Europe from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The river is crossed by the Old Dee Bridge, dating from the 13th century, the Grosvenor Bridge of 1832, and Queen's Park suspension bridge ( for pedestrians ).

As early as the 13th century, it seems to have been known as Fleet Bridge Street, and in the early part of the 14th century it began to be mentioned frequently by its present name, spelled, of course, in accordance with the customs of those days.

The final piece to Oakland Road ( 13th Street ) in San Jose, which was then the main road-Legislative Route 5 and Sign Route 17-between San Jose and Oakland, was dedicated on June 12, 1937, over ten years after the Dumbarton Bridge opened in January 1927.

The Roman Eurymedon Bridge, reconstructed in the 13th century, is also in the vicinity.

The original 13th century tower of Drum Castle has been suggested as the work of medieval architect Richard Cementarius, who built the Bridge of Don in Old Aberdeen.

Long Bridge, in the south of the town was probably built in the 13th century using these bricks and the kiln in Tilkey continued to produce bricks until 1845.

A later edition of Stow's Survey records that " On the 13th day of February, between eleven and twelve at night, there happened in the house of one Briggs, a Needle-maker near St Magnus Church, at the North end of the Bridge, by the carelessness of a Maid-Servant setting a tub of hot sea-coal ashes under a pair of stairs, a sad and lamentable fire, which consumed all the buildings before eight of the clock the next morning, from the North end of the Bridge to the first vacancy on both sides, containing forty-two houses ; water then being very scarce, the Thames being almost frozen over.

The gatehouse, called Monnow Gate, which gives Monnow Bridge its remarkable and noteworthy appearance, was added at the end of the 13th or start of the 14th century, a few years after the bridge itself was built.

European segmental arch bridges date back to at least the Alconétar Bridge ( approximately 2nd century AD ), while the enormous Roman era Trajan's Bridge ( 105 AD ) featured open-spandrel segmental arches in wooden construction.

In his fiftieth Test, at Trent Bridge he scored 126, his sixth and last Test century and his first in 29 matches.

The city's famous Stone Bridge was also reconstructed during this period and the Daut Pasha baths were built at the end of the 15th century.

In all first-class matches in 1871, a total of 17 centuries were scored and Grace accounted for 10 of them, including the first century in a first-class match at Trent Bridge.

The location of Stirling Bridge at the date of the battle is not known with certainty, but four stone piers have been found underwater just north () and at an angle to the extant 15th century bridge, along with man-made stonework on one bank in line with the piers.

Kingston ’ s growth is believed to stem from its having the only crossing between London Bridge and Staines until the beginning of the 18th century.

Several central London road bridges were built in the 19th century, most conspicuously Tower Bridge, the only Bascule bridge on the river, designed to allow ocean going ships to pass beneath it.

Railway development in the 19th century resulted in a spate of bridge building including Blackfriars Railway Bridge and Charing Cross ( Hungerford ) Railway Bridge in central London, and the spectacular railway bridges by Isambard Kingdom Brunel at Maidenhead Railway Bridge, Gatehampton Railway Bridge and Moulsford Railway Bridge.

In 1876, because the 18th century bridge at Newcastle restricted access by ships to the Elswick works, Armstrong ’ s company paid for a new Swing Bridge to be built, so that warships could have their guns fitted at Elswick.

However the current well structure is no older than the late 19th century and it is thought that the name of the street derives from the " Halywell " river and " Halywell Bridge ", not from the well.

Bull's Bridge is one of three remaining covered bridges in Connecticut dating from the 19th century.

The town's two historical points of interest are the unique 14th-century three-sided bridge, Trinity Bridge, which stands at its central point and used to be the confluence of three streams ; and the other is its ruined medieval Croyland Abbey, which was dedicated to Saint Mary the Virgin, Saint Bartholomew and Saint Guthlac in the eighth century.
