* Bode plot

The frequency response of a filter is generally represented using a Bode plot, and the filter is characterized by its cutoff frequency and rate of frequency rolloff.

The magnitude Bode plot for a first-order filter looks like a horizontal line below the cutoff frequency, and a diagonal line above the cutoff frequency.

If the transfer function of a first-order low-pass filter has a zero as well as a pole, the Bode plot will flatten out again, at some maximum attenuation of high frequencies ; such an effect is caused for example by a little bit of the input leaking around the one-pole filter ; this one-pole – one-zero filter is still a first-order low-pass.

The Bode plot for this type of filter resembles that of a first-order filter, except that it falls off more quickly.

It is the Bode plot and frequency response that show this variability.

A Bode plot is a graph of the transfer function of a linear, time-invariant system versus frequency, plotted with a log-frequency axis, to show the system's frequency response.

It is usually a combination of a Bode magnitude plot, expressing

the magnitude of the frequency response gain, and a Bode phase plot, expressing the frequency response phase shift.

These bear his name, Bode gain plot and Bode phase plot ( Bow-duh in Dutch ).

The magnitude axis of the Bode plot is usually expressed as decibels of power, that is by the 20 log rule: 20 times the common ( base 10 ) logarithm of the amplitude gain.

A Bode phase plot is a graph of phase versus frequency, also plotted on a log-frequency axis, usually used in conjunction with the magnitude plot, to evaluate how much a signal will be phase-shifted.

On the Bode magnitude plot, decibels are used, and the plotted magnitude is:

If the transfer function is a rational function with real poles and zeros, then the Bode plot can be approximated with straight lines.

The plot is then called a corrected Bode plot.

The premise of a Bode plot is that one can consider the log of a function in the form:

Also shown in Figure 1 ( a ) and 1 ( b ) are the straight-line approximations to the Bode plots that are used in hand analysis, and described later.

Figure 2 shows the Bode magnitude plot for a zero and a low-pass pole, and compares the two with the Bode straight line plots.

After the fourth issue, Wood sold witzend to Pearson " for the sum of $ 1. 00 ," and the Pearson-edited issues continued to explore new avenues with contributions from Vaughn Bode, Eisner, Jeff Jones, Wood, Bernie Wrightson and others.

The Upper Bode Falls ( Obere Bode-Fall ) on the Warme Bode are really a fast-flowing stream ( Sturzbach ) with small steps about 1 metre in height.

The Bodekessel in the Bode Gorge is a former step in a large hollow, that in was reduced in height in 1798 from 2 metres to 1 metre by explosive.
