The Book of Alma () is one of the books that make up the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Alma is the longest of all the books of the Book of Mormon, consisting of 63 chapters.

The Book of Mormon is a sacred text of the Latter Day Saint movement that adherents believe contains writings of ancient prophets who lived on the American continent from approximately 2200 BC to AD 421.

It was first published in March 1830 by Joseph Smith as The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi.

According to Smith's account, and also according to the book's narrative, the Book of Mormon was originally written in otherwise unknown characters referred to as " reformed Egyptian " engraved on golden plates.

The Book of Mormon has a number of original and distinctive doctrinal discussions on subjects such as the fall of Adam and Eve, the nature of the Atonement, eschatology, redemption from physical and spiritual death, and the organization of the latter-day church.

The Book of Mormon is the earliest of the unique writings of the Latter Day Saint movement, the denominations of which typically regard the text not only as scripture but also as a historical record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas.

The Book of Mormon is divided into smaller books, titled after the individuals named as primary authors and, in most versions, divided into chapters and verses.

The church has an open canon which includes four scriptural texts: the Bible ( both Old and New Testaments ), the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.

Initial converts were drawn to the church in part because of the newly published Book of Mormon, a self-described chronicle of indigenous American prophets that Smith said he had translated from golden plates.

Latter-day Saints consider The Book of Mormon as a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible.

Segments of the Book of Mormon provide an account of the culture, religious teachings and civilizations of groups who immigrated to the New World.

The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of Jesus Christ among Nephites soon after his resurrection.

The latter segments of the Book of Mormon details the destruction of these civilizations, as all were destroyed except the Lamanites.

His next major work, completed in 1892, was a long fantastic epic in prose, entitled Hans Alienus, which Professor Book describes as a monument on the grave of his carefree and indolent youth.

The Book of Enoch describes Sheol as divided into four compartments for four types of the dead: the faithful saints who await resurrection in Paradise, the merely virtuous who await their reward, the wicked who await punishment, and the wicked who have already been punished and will not be resurrected on Judgment Day.

The Book of Ezekiel describes itself as the words of the Ezekiel ben-Buzi, a priest living in exile in the city of Babylon between 593 and 571.

The self-described purpose of Christianity is to provide people with what it holds to be the only valid path to salvation as announced by the apostles of what the Book of Acts describes as, The Way.

The Book of Ezra describes how he led a group of Judean exiles living in Babylon to their home city of Jerusalem ( Ezra 8. 2-14 ) where he enforced observance of the Torah and cleansed the community of mixed marriages.

The Book of Exodus famously describes the Promised Land as a " land flowing with milk and honey " ( 33: 3 ).

The Testimonium Flavianum ( meaning the testimony of Flavius < nowiki ></ nowiki >) is the name given to the passage found in Book 18, Chapter 3, 3 of the Antiquities in which Josephus describes the condemnation and crucifixion of Jesus at the hands of the Roman authorities.

In Book II, Chapter 23. 20 of his Church History, Eusebius describes the death of James according to Josephus.

In Book VI, Polybius describes the way of the Romans ; he discusses the powers of the different parts of the republic, as well as the rights of the plebeian.

Most influential was Book 6, which describes the military and political organization of Rome ; it presented Rome as a state in which monarchical, aristocratic, and popular elements were in a stable equilibrium.

Biographer Lawrence Sutin quotes private diaries that fit this story, and writes that " if ever Crowley uttered the truth of his relation to the Book ," his public account accurately describes what he remembered on this point.

Peter Burke describes sprezzatura in The Book of the Courtier as “ nonchalance ”, “ careful negligence ”, and “ effortless and ease .” The ideal courtier is someone who “ conceals art, and presents what is done and said as if it was done without effort and virtually without thought .” ( 31 ).

The Guinness Book of Records describes the UDHR as the " Most Translated Document " in the world.

The Book of Discipline is the guidebook for local churches and pastors and describes in considerable detail the organizational structure of local United Methodist Churches.

Book 4 concludes with a long mythological narrative, in the form of an epyllion which describes vividly the discovery of beekeeping by Aristaeus and the story of Orpheus ' journey to the underworld.

The book describes the period of time immediately following the visit of Jesus Christ to the Book of Mormon peoples, in which time the Nephites and the Lamanites are all converted to the Church of Christ.
