In the United Kingdom, a great deal of punk fashion from the 1970s was based on the designs of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren and the Bromley Contingent.

The Bromley Contingent is a label invented by journalist Caroline Coon about a group of followers and fans of the Sex Pistols.

The notoriety of the Bromley Contingent in the press continued in June 1977, when Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren rented a boat for the band and fans to sail down the River Thames during Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee anniversary celebration.

Bromley Contingent members Debbie Juvenile and Tracie O ' Keefe ( both employees of McLaren in his Kings Road clothing boutique Seditionaries ) were charged with obstruction and assaulting a police officer.

Many of the Bromley Contingent went on to form bands themselves including The Banshees and Generation X. Arguably they had greater influence than Malcolm McLaren's shops and Vivienne Westwood's designs in shaping the development and look of the early UK punk movement.

Sid Vicious, the bassist who replaced Glen Matlock in the Sex Pistols, claimed he despised the Bromley Contingent, despite having played drums for the Banshees ' debut live appearance at the 100 Club Punk Festival in 1976.

However, amongst the known attendees were: Shane MacGowan ( later of The Nipple Erectors and The Pogues ), Shanne Bradley ( of The Nipple Erectors and The Men They Couldn't Hang ), Viv Albertine of The Slits, Chrissie Hynde ( later of The Pretenders ), Vivienne Westwood ( McLaren's then partner and co-manager of the Chelsea boutique SEX ), Gaye Advert and T. V. Smith ( later of The Adverts ), as well as members of the Bromley Contingent, the punk fashion avant-garde.

Among those arrested are Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren, Vivienne Westwood, artist Jamie Reid, and Bromley Contingent members Tracie O ' Keefe and Debbie Juvenile.

Sid Vicious often wore a swastika shirt for the shock value, and in keeping with the musical Cabarets style of dress for members of the Kit-Kat Club adopted by members of the Bromley Contingent.

Other notable patrons included occasional assistant Chrissie Hynde, Adam Ant, Marco Pirroni, Siouxsie Sioux, Steve Severin and the rest of the Bromley Contingent.

She was educated at Bromley High School, Oxford High School and the London School of Economics where she obtained a third class BSc Economics degree in 1966.

McGloin began a degree in PPE at Oxford University in 2006, whilst Bromley worked as a website designer and is a member of the Church of Scientology.
