On January 24, 2006, UPN parent CBS Corporation and Time Warner, owner of The WB, announced that they were to create a new broadcast network, The CW Television Network -- for all intents and purposes, a merger of UPN and The WB.

Warner owns half of The CW Television Network.

In 2006, Warner and CBS Paramount Television decided to close The WB and CBS's UPN and jointly launch The CW Television Network.

Since the creation of Fox, the number of American television networks has grown, but the amount of programming they provide is often much less: for example, The CW Television Network only broadcasts for ten hours each week, leaving its affiliates free to broadcast a large amount of syndicated programming.

In the 2006 – 2007 television season, The CW Television Network was launched by the merger of The WB Television Network and the UPN network.

Midland is served by 10 local television stations: KMID-an ABC affiliate, KWES-TV-an NBC affiliate, KOSA-a CBS affiliate and a MyNetwork TV affiliate on their digital cable TV station, KPEJ-a Fox affiliate, KPBT-a PBS affiliate, KWWT-The CW Television Network affiliate, KUPB-a Univision affiliate, KTLE-LP-a Telemundo affiliate, and K69IT-a Multimedios Television affiliate.

On January 24, 2006, CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. Entertainment announced plans to shut down the network and launch The CW Television Network later that same year.

Sinclair Broadcast Group owned both the Fox and WB affiliates in the DMA prior to the September 2006 merger of UPN and WB into a newly created CW Network and was forced by Fox to convert its WB affiliate ( WDKA ) into a MyNetworkTV affiliate ( MY49 ).

Mishawaka located stations include WSBT-TV ( CBS ), WBND-LP ( ABC ), WCWW-LP ( CW ) and WMYS-LP ( My Network TV ).

The WB Television Network shut down on September 17, 2006, and merged with UPN ( which had shut down two days earlier ) to form The CW.

As well, a package of pay TV channels is also available for further fees, including movie networks such as The Movie Network, Movie Central, Super Channel and Super Écran, and American superstations such as WSBK, WPIX, WGN and KTLA ( which are often affiliated with The CW and MyNetworkTV.

The CW ordered a pilot created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and her executive producer husband Dan Palladino, tentatively known as The Wyoming Project ( and also called The Damn Thorpes ) for consideration for the 2010 – 11 television season.

The CW was created in 2006 when UPN merged with The WB.

This is in tune with another Tribune newspaper ( Orlando Sentinel ), which redesigned its newspaper a few months previously, and created a brand synergy with Tribune sister operation and CW affiliate WSFL-TV ( Channel 39 ), which relocated its operations to the Sun-Sentinel offices in 2008 and adopted a logo matching the capital " S " in the new logo.

On March 2, 2006 Sinclair announced that Channel 24 was to be the Milwaukee affiliate for MyNetworkTV, which was created by Fox Television Stations Group in the wake of the January 24, 2006 announcement that the UPN and WB networks would cease operations in September 2006, and merge into one network, The CW.

On January 24, 2006, Time Warner's Warner Bros. Entertainment division and CBS Corporation announced that their respectively-owned broadcast networks, The WB ( which Time Warner jointly-owned with Tribune Company ) and UPN, would cease operations with programming from both networks consolidated onto a single broadcast network created as a joint venture between the two companies called The CW Television Network ( the " CW " name representing the first initials of each of the network's corporate parents ), which would replace The WB and UPN starting on September 18, 2006.

On March 8, Belo signed an affiliation agreement with the network that saw KASW become The CW's Phoenix charter affiliate, while the market's UPN affiliate KUTP became an owned-and-operated station of MyNetworkTV thirteen days before the launch of The CW on September 5 ( MyNetworkTV was created by KUTP parent News Corporation after the company's UPN affiliates owned by News Corporation's Fox Television Stations unit were passed over for initial affiliations with The CW in favor of stations owned by CBS Television Stations and Tribune Broadcasting ).
