The proposed scheme by Bishops supported by John Norman, Cecil Clutton and Patrick Moule favoured returning the organ to its Gray & Davison past but including a ' Chair ' section instead of the Choir in order to try to overcome the difficulties of the position of the organ was bold but hardly in keeping historically and proved a to be musically and mechanically a disaster and increasingly unreliable so that after no more than twenty years it was necessary for the Organ to be rebuilt again in 2003 / 04 by Kenneth Tickell, so thoroughly as to make it effectively a new instrument in the old case.

All together, the organ comprises one Great Organ, a Swell Organ, a Choir Organ featuring a 16 foot Contra Dulciana, Choir Organ Echo, a Solo Organ, Solo Organ Echo, an Arch Organ outfitted with 8 foot Arch Clarion, a 64 foot Gravissima and a 32 foot Bourdon Profunda, in addition to the final Traps that were enclosed in the Choir: Bass drum, castanets, Chinese block, crash cymbal, gong snare drum ( f ), snare drum ( ff ), and a tambourine triangle.

The Choir is currently directed by Mr Andrew Nethsingha, who has previously been Director of Music at Gloucester and Truro Cathedrals.

In 1984, Youth Choir became the first band to play at the Cornerstone Festival, the pre-eminent Christian arts and music festival in the United States.

Two months later, on August 19, 2005, The Choir played a 20th anniversary concert at Mariners Church in Irvine, California, along with 4-4-1, Altar Boys, Crumbächer and Undercover, in order to acknowledge the birth of the Christian alternative music scene under the aegis of Calvary Chapel in the early 1980s.

In July 2012, The Choir is scheduled to be the last band to play at the final gathering of the Cornerstone Festival in commemoration of their inaugural 1984 performance.

On July 7, 2012 the final song performed at Cornerstone was " Too Bid Farewell " performed by Derri Daugherty and Steve Hindalong of The Choir.

It was at this point that the Choir began to match the size of the spacious Tabernacle.

St John's College Choir has a tradition of religious music and has sung the daily services in the College Chapel since the 1670s.
