Christian alternative music has its roots in the early 1980s, as the earliest efforts at Christian punk and new wave were recorded by artists like Andy McCarroll and Moral Support, Undercover, The 77s, Adam Again, Quickflight, Daniel Amos, Youth Choir ( later renamed The Choir ), Lifesavers Underground, Michael Knott, The Altar Boys, Breakfast with Amy, Steve Taylor, 4-4-1, David Edwards and Vector.

The term " Choir " has the secondary definition of a subset of an ensemble ; thus one speaks of the " woodwind choir " of an orchestra, or different " choirs " of voices and / or instruments in a polychoral composition.

St John's College Choir has a tradition of religious music and has sung the daily services in the College Chapel since the 1670s.

The Choir is currently directed by Mr Andrew Nethsingha, who has previously been Director of Music at Gloucester and Truro Cathedrals.

The Choir has an extensive discography dating back to the 1950s, when it was signed to the Decca / Argo label under George Guest.

More recently, the Choir has completed a sequence of recordings of English 20th century choral for Naxos, which sold over 200, 000 copies.

The Choir now records with Hyperion Records, and has released four discs to date with the label: one of the music of Mendelssohn, a collection of music for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany, Christmas at St John's, a recording of the choral and vocal music of Jongen and Peeters and most recently, a collection of the music of Bairstow.

The Choir has received invitations to perform throughout the world, recently touring in France, Austria, the Netherlands, Estonia, Hungary and America.

Saint Hugh ’ s Choir has a total of thirty six trusses keeping the roof in place, and it is held up entirely by means of its own weight and forces.

Worcester Cathedral has three choirs: the Worcester Cathedral Choir ( the main choir which has both a boys ' and a girls ' treble line, which normally work independently ), Worcester Cathedral Chamber Choir, and the Worcester Cathedral Voluntary Choir.

Since the 18th century, Worcester Cathedral Choir has taken part in the Three Choirs Festival, the oldest music festival in the world.

There is a permanent choir, the Sistine Chapel Choir, for whom much original music has been written, the most famous piece being Gregorio Allegri's Miserere.

Each band member has worked on numerous projects outside The Choir: Hindalong produced the successful City On A Hill series of worship albums, co-writing the well-known song " God of Wonders " with band-mate Byrd.

Chandler has been the bass guitar player for Daniel Amos for many years, pre-dating his work with The Choir.

Although the band has long had a cult following among listeners of Christian alternative music, that did not translate into financial success within the contemporary Christian music ( CCM ) industry, nor did it lead to a successful mainstream crossover experienced by later groups like Jars of Clay, Switchfoot and Sixpence None the Richer, who have pointed to The Choir as a significant musical influence.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir ( affectionately referred to as the MoTab by church members ) is named after the Salt Lake Tabernacle where it has performed for over a hundred years.

The organ has long been associated with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's " signature sound ," though the Choir does sing a capella or to orchestral accompaniment as well.

The Morgan State University Choir has shared its musical gifts on many grand stages all over the world -– with numerous dignitaries and celebrated performers -– making them cultural ambassadors for Morgan State University, the city of Baltimore, and the state of Maryland.

Piqua High School Show Choir " The Company " won numerous Grand Championships.

As well as the traditional Chapel Choir, which also takes in choristers from nearby Murray Edwards, the college is home to numerous singing ensembles.

Ensembles include nationally renowned College Choir and Symphony Orchestra, as well as Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Men's Chorus, Women's Chorale, and numerous chamber ensembles.

Under Clausen, The Concordia Choir has released numerous recordings and has performed with the King's Singers.

Up Off the Floor caused numerous complaints amongst fans about the quality of the album's mastering, as well as complaints that two of the more well-known songs from the album's sessions (" Choir Boy " and " Fame ") were removed and not included in the official release for undisclosed reasons.

It has toured internationally to Europe, Brazil, and Mexico and earned numerous awards, including Unanimous Superior ratings at CMEA adjudications, fourth place Golden State Choral Festival ( 2009 ), top ranked Concert Choir and top ranked Choral Group at Anaheim Music Festival ( 2007 and 2009 ).

Edmunson's career in music includes eight years as a professional singer in the Vancouver Chamber Choir, as well as volunteering and assisting with numerous music organizations.

The Green Pastures also featured numerous African American spirituals arranged by Hall Johnson and performed by The Hall Johnson Choir.

In addition to the various academic classes, Kamiakin High School has numerous school activities that include ASB, Instrumental Music ( Jazz Band, Choir, Pep Band, Marching Band, Orchestra ), Buddy Club, dance team, DECA, drama, foreign exchange, Key Club, photography club, tech club, swing club, the Tomatalk newspaper, yearbook and Link Crew.

The local Ardusat Choir has been the best in Romania for decades, and has won numerous prizes at Italian, Eastern European and American contests.

The Loboc Children's Choir has won numerous competitions both local and international, most notably festival competition in Barcelona, Spain, entitled " Europe and its Songs ", on September 17 – 21, 2003.

Music is furnished by the Carleton College Choir.

The St. Olaf College Choir was established as an outgrowth of the local St. John's Lutheran Church, where Christiansen was organist and the choir was composed at least partially of students from the nearby St. Olaf campus.

Also of note is the college drama society, CADS ; Christ's College Medical Society ; Christ's Films, who use the theatre to screen films weekly ; the Music Society ( founded 1710 ) and the Chapel Choir: Christ's College Chapel Choir.

In their May 2004 issue, Reader ’ s Digest named the Morgan State University Choir as the “ Best College Choir " in its list of “ America ’ s 100 Best .”

Extracurricular activities included the Coleman College Choir, a Glee Club and intercollegiate athletics.

Westminster Choir College is located mainly in the borough ; a small part is in the township.

Traditionally the Choir sings at College Gaudies and at other special events throughout the year, as well as performing on social occasions such as Carols by Candlelight before Christmas and the famous May Morning.

Christ Church is unique in that it has both a Cathedral Choir ( Director Stephen Darlington ) and a College Choir ( Director William Waine ).

The College Choir, on the other hand, is always a student run society, and sings Evensong once a week in term time.
