Multimedia Home Platform ( DVB-MHP ) is an open middleware system standard designed by the DVB project for interactive digital television.

DVB now defines a new standard for 3D video broadcast: DVB 3D-TV.

A few years ago, the DVB project started the development of a Java-based application platform ( a set of APIs ), called MHP, intended to support software applications running on digital television platforms.

MPEG-2 is considered important because it has been chosen as the compression scheme for over-the-air digital television ATSC, DVB and ISDB, digital satellite TV services like Dish Network, digital cable television signals, SVCD and DVD Video.

In particular, the IETF WGs on IP over Cable Data Network ( IPCDN ) and IP over Digital Video Broadcasting ( DVB ) produced some standards applicable to cable modem systems, primarily in the areas of Simple Network Management Protocol ( SNMP ) Management Information Bases ( MIBs ) for cable modems and other networking equipment that operates over CATV networks.

Digital Video Broadcasting ( DVB ) is a suite of internationally accepted open standards for digital television.

DVB standards are maintained by the DVB Project, an international industry consortium with more than 270 members, and they are published by a Joint Technical Committee ( JTC ) of European Telecommunications Standards Institute ( ETSI ), European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization ( CENELEC ) and European Broadcasting Union ( EBU ).

The DVB-T2 specification was approved by the DVB Steering Board in June 2008 and sent to ETSI for adoption as a formal standard.

DVB transports include metadata called Service Information ( DVB-SI, ETSI EN 300 468, ETSI TR 101 211 ) that links the various elementary streams into coherent programs and provides human-readable descriptions for electronic program guides as well as for automatic searching and filtering.

This is an XML Schema based technology and the DVB profile is tailored for enhanced Personal Digital Recorders.

DVB lately also started an activity to develop a service for IPTV ( DVB-IPI, ETSI TR 102033, ETSI TS 102034, ETSI TS 102814 ) which also includes metadata definitions for a broadband content guide ( DVB-BCG, ETSI TS 102 539 ).

In addition to providing abstractions for many DVB and MPEG-2 concepts, it provides interfaces for other features like network card control, application download, and layered graphics.

Notably most DVB software for PC has problems with this, though in late 2007 compatible software was released, like DVBViewer using the libfaad2 library.

Companies that manufacture a product which is compliant to one or more DVB standards have the option of registering a Declaration of Conformity for that product.

The hierarchical modulation used on DVB is a unique case, which reduces the range of the full-definition signal, in exchange for an increase in the usable range of the lower-definition part of the video.

In March 2006, the development of a new second generation digital terrestrial broadcasting standard, DVB-T2, was agreed by the DVB Group.

The Common Scrambling Algorithm ( or CSA ) is the encryption algorithm used in the DVB digital television broadcasting for encrypting video streams.

Were CSA to be broken, encrypted DVB transmissions would be decipherable, regardless of any proprietary conditional access ( CA ) system used.
