In October 1984, it was amended to forbid action by not only the Defense Department and the Central Intelligence Agency but all U. S. government agencies.

That information was frequently repeated by members of the Bush Administration even though then-classified reports from both the Central Intelligence Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency strongly questioned its credibility, suggesting that al-Libi was " intentionally misleading " interrogators.

Powell's speech came less than a month after a then-classified CIA report concluding that the information provided by al-Libi was unreliable and about a year after a Defense Intelligence Agency report concluded the same thing.

An article published in the November 5, 2005 New York Times quoted two paragraphs of a Defense Intelligence Agency report, declassified upon request by Senator Carl Levin, that expressed doubts about the results of al-Libi's interrogation in February 2002.

A Human Rights Watch report of 1 February 2000 quotes a study made by the US Defense Intelligence Agency:

Those at the fringe are likely to suffer many internal, and thus invisible injuries, including burst eardrums and crushed inner ear organs, severe concussions, ruptured lungs and internal organs, and possibly blindness .” Another Defense Intelligence Agency document speculates that because the “ shock and pressure waves cause minimal damage to brain tissue … it is possible that victims of FAEs are not rendered unconscious by the blast, but instead suffer for several seconds or minutes while they suffocate .”

The Department also supports the foreign affairs activities of other U. S. Government entities including the Department of Defense, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Homeland Security, the Central Intelligence Agency ( specifically, the Special Activities Division ), and the U. S. Agency for International Development.

By 1988, the U. S. Department of Defense ( DoD ) issued Instruction 4630. 8 ( reissued in 1992, 2002, 2004 ) stating its policy that “ all forces for joint and combined operations be supported through compatible, interoperable, and integrated Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence systems.

The Secretary's staff element is called the Office of the Secretary of Defense ( OSD ) and is composed of a Deputy Secretary of Defense ( DEPSECDEF ) and five Under Secretaries of Defense in the fields of Acquisition, Technology & Logistics ; Comptroller / Chief Financial Officer ; Intelligence ; Personnel & Readiness ; and Policy.

Even after the garrison inactivation, however, there were still two units in Darmstadt until new facilities had been constructed for them elsewhere: The 66th Military Intelligence Group at the Dagger Complex on Eberstädter Weg, and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency in the Nathan Hale Depot.

A much smaller group than the NSC, it consisted of the President as chairman, the Vice President, the Secretaries of State, Defense, and the Treasury, the Attorney General ( the President's brother ), the Director of Central Intelligence, and Chairman of the JCS as well as National Security Advisor Bundy.

Chaired by National Security Advisor Bundy, the new body included the Director of Central Intelligence, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Under Secretaries from the State and Defense Departments.

The Policy Analysis Market ( PAM ), part of the FutureMAP project, was a proposed futures exchange developed by the United States ' Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ( DARPA ) and based on an idea first proposed by Net Exchange, a San Diego research firm specializing in the development of online prediction markets.

In 1984, DIA departed Arlington Hall for their new premier facility, the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center ( DIAC ) on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, a move that was complete by December 1984.

The Defense Intelligence Agency built its Defense Intelligence Analysis Center at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and moved many of its operations and headquarters there in 1987.

Research conducted by CNA Advanced Technology & Systems Analysis focuses on analyses of ways to improve future material readiness for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other components of the Department of Defense.

He served as military assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense, executive assistant to the Secretary of the Navy, and on the Navy Staff as Director, Systems Analysis Division, Assistant Chief of Naval Personnel and Director, Navy Program Planning.

He was Director, Program Analysis and Evaluation and then Assistant Secretary of Defense ( Program Analysis and Evaluation ) from May 1981 to January 1993.

In 2007, U. S. Department of Defense ’ s Telemedicine and Advanced Technologies Research Center ( TATRC ) began to study the antimicrobial properties of copper alloys, including four brasses ( C87610, C69300, C26000, C46400 ) in a multi-site clinical hospital trial conducted at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center ( New York City ), the Medical University of South Carolina, and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center ( South Carolina ).

The Imperva Application Defense Center ( ADC ) did an analysis on the strength of the passwords.

Soviet-built thrusters were introduced to the West in 1992 after a team of electric propulsion specialists from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Glenn Research Center, and the Air Force Research Laboratory, under the support of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, visited Soviet laboratories and experimentally evaluated the SPT-100 ( i. e., a 100 mm diameter SPT thruster ).

The Air Force Office of Commercial Communications Management ( now the Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization ), the White House Signal Agency ( now the White House Communications Agency ), and the DoD Damage Assessment Center ( now the Joint Staff Support Center ) all became a part of DCA.

The Joint Spectrum Center and the Defense Technical Information Center also became part of DISA.

In July 2009, the Air Force Personnel Center at Randolph Air Force Base confirmed that DISA will host the Air Force instantiation of the RightNow Technologies ' Commercial off-the-shelf personnel customer service and self-service applications at its Defense Enterprise Computing Centers ( DECC ).

Many cadets are involved in research via their major, coordinated in more than a dozen Academy research centers, including the Institute for Information Technology Applications, the Institute for National Security Studies, the Air Force Humanities Institute, the Eisenhower Center for Space and Defense Studies, the Life Sciences Research Center, the Academy Center for Physics Education Research, among others.
