In The Transformers: The Movie, the Dinobots traveled in the shuttle with Optimus Prime towards the end of the attack on Autobot City and fought with Devastator.

In 1984, when Shockwave was accidentally reactivated by an Autobot probe and took command of the Decepticons from Megatron, Autobot medic Ratchet entered into an uneasy alliance with the deposed Decepticon leader, agreeing to recover the Dinobots so that they might defeat Shockwave again.

Grimlock instead opted to lead the Dinobots to Cybertron itself, where they were captured by Shockwave and put to work in the Cybertonium mines, until Spike and Carly rescued them.

Joe ( inadvertently teleported with them ) to make a hasty truce to defeat the machinations of Shockwave and recover time-displaced Autobots and Decepticons, including Optimus Prime and the Dinobots.

These " Dinobots " engaged Shockwave, but he slyly outmaneuvered them, and managed to trap them in a tar pit one by one by picking them off from a safe distance with his superior firepower.

In 1985, Shockwave contended with the power of the Dinobots when they splintered off from the Autobots and came to Cybertron in " Desertion of the Dinobots ", episodes # 37-38.

With the aid of his guards, Shockwave was able to overpower them and put them to work in the Cybertronian pits, but failed to prevent the escape of Spike Witwicky and his girlfriend, Carly, when they pursued the Dinobots to the planet and were able to effect their release.

Shockwave is subsequently reactivated by Skywatch to locate and nullify Laserbeak, Ravage, and the Dinobots whom Skywatch have lost control of.

Upon locating the Dinobots Shockwave firstly engages and defeats Scorponok in battle, and then turns his attentions to Grimlock.

Shockwave opens a space bridge to search the universe for energy to rebuild Cybertron. He soon finds dinosaurs on Earth and later he appllied these forms to a group of Autobots on Cybertron with Grimlock being one of them and calls them Dinobots.

Shockwave later tries to control the new Dinobots, but they are intelligent enough to rebel against him.

This attempt was thwarted, and Shockwave was later overthrown when the Dinobots ( rendered incredibly powerful by Teletran 3's reformatting them into dinosaurs ) returned.

The Dinobots are portrayed as an elite task force that was known the Lightning Strike Coalition, and are captured by Shockwave during the Decepticons attack on Iacon.

Shockwave then opens a portal to Earth millions of years in the past, and reconfigures the group as the Dinobots in order to destroy the Autobots.

However the Dinobots could not be controlled and rebel against Shockwave.

( It was his first probe for the Dinobots that had awoken Shockwave, dooming his comrades.

He later returned to the Ark with the Dinobots and repaired his fellow Autobots, with the exception of Optimus Prime, whose head was mysteriously missing ( kept by Shockwave to tap the powers of the Matrix ).

He and the other Dinobots battle Shockwave, but all the combatants are buried in a tar pit.

Spike and Carly went to Cybertron to find them and found Swoop, who led them to the other Dinobots that were captured and working for Shockwave.

A group of humans were able to bring the new Dinobots back to Cybertron and they helped overcome Shockwave ( G. I.

Shockwave sent Octane to investigate, but the Dinobots jumped him, beheaded him and stole his shuttle.

With their final strike the battle ended in a stalemate as the Dinobots made him fall in the pit along with them, buried under a rock slide for several million years.

Ratchet pulled a double-cross, however, and had the Dinobots attack Megatron instead, resulting in a battle that ended with Megatron's disappearance.

Grimlock and the Dinobots were destroyed during the battle against Starscream while the villain was super-powered by the Underbase.

The Dinobots returned to Cybertron with the nucleon, and arrived in time for the battle with Unicron.

When Bludgeon and his Decepticons were banished after the battle of Klo Grimlock refitted his Decepticon battleship, the Graviton, with weapons and recruited his several Dinobots and Autobots to hunt them down.

Sent into battle by Prowl, the Dinobots routed the main Decepticon forces while Springer led the Autobot Survivors, Broadside, Inferno, Skids, and Carnivac to defeat Starscream.

The group follow them to Blackarachnia's lab, and, in the ensuing battle, Jetstorm and Jetfire hand the Dinobots a crushing defeat.

Grimlock began to experience brief bursts of immobility, his joints locking, which reached a peak when he became completely paralyzed in Cybertron's wastelands while he and the Dinobots were under attack by monstrous creatures from beneath Cybertron's surface.

Grimlock and the Dinobots were semi-regularly called into action when the Autobots were faced with challenges that required extra strength, such as the Sub-Atlantican invasion of Washington, D. C., or the Decepticons ' control of the TORQ III supercomputer ; with every piece of help he and his troops gave, Grimlock was never slow to add a scathing remark about the inabilities of the Autobots.

The final straw for Grimlock came when he and the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon trap at an airfield.

In a comic story found in the Transformers DVD boxset for season 2, a special comic was donated by Darren Jamieson and Dylan Gibson that explored what happened when the Dinobots combined.

The modern Transformers ' first encounter with the Quintessons came in the Earth year 2005 ( during the events of The Transformers: The Movie ), when Hot Rod, Kup and the Dinobots were stranded on the planet and faced Quintesson justice, only able to escape when Grimlock intimidated the Sharkticons into revolting, and Wheelie led the marooned Autobots to a Quintesson ship to allow them to get off the planet.

He did end up attempting to fend off the Dinobots on Dinobot Island when he provoked them.

He was also mentioned in " Grimlock's New Brain ", when Grimlock told the other Dinobots that Omega was away on a mission, forcing him to build a shuttle to investigate Unicron's head.

Sharpshot uses Snarl as a hostage when the Dinobots arrive, and taunts Grimlock as wave after wave of Insecticons attack Grimlock, before he destroys the columns conecting Sharpshot to Snarl.

Decepticons have been known to flee in fear when faced with the two Dinobots, as Swoop uses his aerial abilities to confuse and distract them, while Grimlock attacks from behind and stomps them flat before they know what hit them.

However, when Scrapper came on the island and gives him his name, Snarl sticks by Scrapper as a pet much the other Dinobots ' dismay.

When brought online, the Dinobots rampaged through the Ark, causing Optimus Prime to order that the they be rendered inert, but when he and the other Autobots were captured by Megatron, Slag and the other Dinobots were given cerebral upgrades and thus were able to rescue Optimus and the other Autobots.

In the post-movie episode " Call of the Primitives ", Slag briefly took on the leadership role of the Dinobots, when it was presumed that Grimlock was destroyed.

At first they rampaged through the Ark and Optimus Prime ordered that the Dinobots be put offline permanently, but when he and the other Autobots were captured by Megatron, Sludge and the other Dinobots were used to rescue Optimus and the other Autobots.

This is seen in the Dinobot incident when, by accident, Sari Sumdac's key card boosts the effect Bumblebee's electric shocks as he and Ratchet attempt to shut down the rampaging Dinobots, giving them true life as a result.
