It is the second largest metro system in the world in terms of route miles, after the Shanghai Metro and part of the largest system in terms of route miles when taken together with the Docklands Light Railway. The light metro lines in London are operated by the Docklands Light Railway, whereas the Shanghai Metro is a group of four companies which operate heavy rail rapid transit and light metro lines.

Monorails are often but not exclusively elevated, sometimes leading to confusion with other elevated systems such as the Docklands Light Railway, Vancouver SkyTrain and the JFK AirTrain.

They are located on Garnet street in close proximity to the local Wallace James shop, St Peter's Primary School, Gastronomica bar, Docklands General Store and Crane Wharf.

Automated driverless systems are not exclusively rubber-tyred ; many have since been built using conventional rail technology, such as London's Docklands Light Railway, the Copenhagen metro and Vancouver's SkyTrain, the Disneyland Resort Line which uses converted rolling stocks from non-driverless trains, as well as AirTrain JFK which is linking JFK Airport in New York City with local subway and commuter trains.

In contrast to some other driverless metro systems like the Docklands Light Railway or Vancouver's SkyTrain, the VAL design uses platforms that are separated from the rollways by a glass partition, to prevent waiting passengers from straying or falling onto the rollways.

The ground floor, foyer area and basement levels of One Canada Square are open to the general public, having an underground shopping area and a transport interchange from Canary Wharf tube and Docklands Light Railway stations.

Within London, they are also responsible for policing of the London Underground, Tramlink and the Docklands Light Railway.

The attack by the Provisional IRA showed that while the ring of steel was able to hinder attacks inside the City itself, terrorists could instead target other high value areas such as the Docklands or Westminster, which are not inside the City of London.

Due to its proximity to London's Docklands and financial district its main users are business travellers, but leisure traveller numbers are increasing.

Nearby mainline railway stations are located at Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street, and Tower Gateway is the closest Docklands Light Railway station.

Bank and Monument are interlinked London Underground and Docklands Light Railway stations that form a public transport complex spanning the length of King William Street in the City of London.

Urban renewal areas like Docklands, Southbank, St Kilda Road and Port Melbourne are now predominately apartments.

Although it shares its name with the Docklands Light Railway station at Canary Wharf, the two are not directly integrated ( in fact, Heron Quays DLR station is nearer at street level ).

However non-folding bicycles are not permitted on the Docklands Light Railway system.

They were part of the Port of London, in the area now known as the Docklands, and are now a popular housing and leisure complex.

Platforms 3 and 4 are the eastern lower pair and are used by Docklands Light Railway trains.

Platforms 3 & 6 are ' island ' platforms providing easy cross-platform interchange with National Rail services operating from platforms 5 and 8 respectively ( see below ), while platform 3A has a direct step-free connection at mezzanine level, facilitating easier interchange with Jubilee line trains on platforms 13-15 and Docklands Light Railway trains on platforms 4A & 4B.

It also created conflict between the new and old communities of the London Docklands.

The Docklands ' status as a symbol of Thatcher's Britain has also made it a target for terrorists.

London Docklands also now boasts its own free newspaper, The Docklands, launched in 2006 by Archant London, following the purchase of Docklands News, the ex LDDC newspaper which was then owned by Ivy Communications.

However the club also hosts home matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Docklands Stadium ( currently also known by its sponsorship name as " Etihad Stadium ").

Sydney took the points in their two clashes in season 2011: first a 15-point win in Sydney in Round 22 and then a more convincing 25-point win in the elimination final at Docklands Stadium that not only ended the Saints ' season but also handed them their first Saturday night loss at the venue since Round 9, 2003.

The Club draws its supporter base from this traditionally working class area and plays its home matches at Docklands Stadium in the Melbourne Docklands area, also in the city's inner-west.

It also enjoys fast, frequent transport links to the City and West End as well as connections with the Docklands Light Railway in Lewisham and East London Line in New Cross ( now the London Overground ).

Docklands Light Railway also used a bold weight of this typeface in the late 1980s and early ' 90s.

8 Canada Square ( also known as HSBC Group Head Office, or HSBC Tower ) is a skyscraper located at Canary Wharf in London Docklands, Borough of Tower Hamlets.

The Docklands Light Railway also passes under the Thames between Island Gardens at the southern end of the Isle of Dogs and Cutty Sark in the centre of Greenwich.

There is a statue in her honor in Melbourne's Docklands area by the Yarra river near Harbour Town which also includes statues of singer John Farnham, Dame Nellie Melba, and TV King Graham Kennedy

Over time, manufacturing industry also moved into the Docklands, including large coal and gas plants and storage, the Pura Lard factory, flour mills, and many other businesses.

Docklands ( also known as Melbourne Docklands to differentiate it from London Docklands ) is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 2 km west from Melbourne's Central Business District.

However, Docklands was close to the City of London and this made it an attractive secondary office location as well as a possible site for riverside residential development to accommodate the phenomenon of yuppies, the young high income single person households created by new jobs in the financial services industry.

In October 2004, Transport for London announced plans to close and replace South Quay station with a station at a new location because of increased use of the Docklands Light Railway.

West Ham station on Manor Road is served by the London Underground Jubilee, Hammersmith and City and District lines ; the National Rail c2c services ; and from 2010 the Docklands Light Railway.

The city's Central Business District experienced a major resurgence in the 2000s, aided by a large increase in inner-city apartment living, the opening of new public spaces such as Federation Square and the new Southern Cross railway station, a determined marketing campaign by Lord Mayor John So's City Council and continuing development of the Southbank and Docklands precincts.
