Through Odo's efforts, the Dominion permits visitors from the Alpha Quadrant to resume peaceful operations in the Gamma Quadrant, in exchange for leaving its territory alone.

The Alliance remained neutral during the destructive Dominion War which laid waste to much of the Alpha Quadrant.

The Alpha Quadrant's first knowledge of the Dominion came through business dealings that Quark and the Ferengi had in the Gamma Quadrant with the Karemma of the Dominion.

In the fictional Star Trek universe, the Dominion War is a conflict between the forces of the Dominion, Cardassian Union and, later, the Breen Confederacy against the Alpha Quadrant alliance of the United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire and, later, the Romulan Star Empire.

These reports are justified in " Sanctuary ", when a large fleet of Skrreea ships appears in the Alpha Quadrant, in search of a new homeworld in light of the conquest of their original planet by Dominion forces.

In the fifth season, the Dominion invasion of the Alpha Quadrant gathers pace, appearing in episodes such as " Apocalypse Rising ", " In Purgatory's Shadow ", " By Inferno's Light ", and " Blaze of Glory ".

The shapeshifter double sabotages efforts to close the Wormhole, and attempts to destroy the Bajoran sun, leaving the path open for Dominion fleets to enter the Alpha Quadrant.

When the Dominion begins to send ships through the Wormhole, the Alpha Quadrant allies build a minefield at its mouth to cut off the supply line.

) The plan, originated by Tain, involved a fleet of cloaked Romulan and Cardassian vessels traversing into the heart of Dominion territory in the Gamma Quadrant where they would annihilate the homeworld of the Founders.

Five days later, nearly the entire Maquis movement was slaughtered by the Dominion ( except for those on the USS Voyager, that was lost in the Delta Quadrant at the time ).

The Cardassians ( as members of the Dominion ) captured DS9 (" Call to Arms "), but the Federation managed to block the Bajoran wormhole with self-replicating mines, preventing the Dominion from sending reinforcements from the Gamma Quadrant.

In the Star Trek universe, the Dominion is a militaristic empire composed of many different alien races, based in the Gamma Quadrant.

In 2370, Jem ' Hadar troops annihilated numerous Bajoran and Federation colonies and ships in the Gamma Quadrant and captured Commander Sisko, as the Dominion demanded the Federation stay on their side of the " anomaly ".

In 2371, the combined intelligence organizations of the Cardassian Union and Romulan Star Empire attempted a strike into the Gamma Quadrant with a cloaked fleet, seeking to destroy the Founder's home planet and cripple the Dominion.

At the conclusion of the war it is assumed that the Dominion still held vast territories in the Gamma Quadrant.

Open hostilities began a few months later, when the Federation mined the wormhole to prevent further Dominion ships from arriving.

Threatened with Dominion penetration into the inner sphere of the Federation, the Alliance forces were at a disadvantage, but were saved when the Romulan Star Empire entered the war on their side in response to an alleged, but faked Dominion plan of assaulting the Empire that Sisko and Garak created.

After the end of hostilities, the Founders were cured when Odo returned to the Great Link after a peace treaty was signed between the Dominion and the Federation.
