Eastwood's next film The Eiger Sanction ( 1975 ) was based on Trevanian's critically acclaimed spy novel of the same name.

Upon release in May 1975 The Eiger Sanction was a commercial failure, receiving only $ 23. 8 million ( US $ in dollars ) at the box office, and was poorly received by most critics.

This feat included climbing the famously difficult north face of the Eiger in the Alps in 1993.

Long famed as a winter tourist destination with slopes for beginners, intermediates and the challenges of the Eiger glacier for the experienced, there are activities for the non-skiers, from tobogganing to groomed winter hiking tracks.
