Ford XR Falcon 500 Station Wagon

The next new model Falcon, the XR series, was introduced in September 1966.

The 144 cubic inch ( 2. 4-litre ) six-cylinder engine was deleted for the XR series leaving the 170 cubic inch ( 2. 8-litre ) six as the base Falcon engine.

The XR series was initially offered in nine different models: Falcon, Falcon 500 and Fairmont Sedans, Falcon, Falcon 500 and Fairmont Wagons, Falcon and Falcon 500 Utilities and the Falcon Van.

The new wagons shared the wheelbase with the XR sedans, unlike the 1966 US Falcon wagons which featured a wheelbase.

The Falcon 500 replaced the Falcon Deluxe of the XP series and the two-door hardtop body style available in the XP series was not offered in the XR range.

The marketing focus on the Falcon's relationship with the Mustang's sporty appeal led to Ford introducing a Falcon GT variant of the XR in 1967, featuring a version of the 289 cubic inch ( 4. 7-litre ) Windsor V8 engine, sourced from the Ford Mustang.

The 1969 XW Falcon introduced bolder styling which featured raised ridges down each front guard and a ' buttressed ' c-pillar ( although the rear windscreen was not relocated ), which made the cars appear larger than the XR / XT models.

Australian Falcon exports have traditionally been confined to right-hand-drive countries in the Asia-Pacific region, such as New Zealand ( where Ford New Zealand sometimes devised local trim models, such as the XR Falcon 600 and the XA Luxury V8 ), and Pacific Island nations like Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

The 289 was also the engine for the first Australian Ford Falcon GT, the XR Falcon GT.

The name was dropped from the XR Falcon range of 1966 and re-introduced in the XW range of 1969.

At $ 54, 950 ( plus on-roads ) for the Sedan, and $ 49, 950 ( plus ) for the Ute, the GS variants sit between Ford's Falcon XR range and FPV's GT and F6.

The BA Falcon won the prestigious Wheels Car of the Year Award ( COTY ) in 2002.

It successfully replaced the V8 Monaro GTS 350 as Holden's frontline track race car in 1970, winning many touring car and rally events, but for the famed Bathurst race which Ford won in 1970 and 1971 with its XW Phase Two and XY Phase Three Falcon GT-HOs respectively.

By now equipping the XU-1 with the 202ci engine and larger 1. 75in CD triple carburettors, as well as a new close ratio M21 4-speed Australian made transmission, this gave the nimble XU-1 the power boost it needed to seriously challenge the powerful Ford Falcon GTHO Phase III, which had won the 1971 Hardie-Ferodo 500 production car endurance race held annually at Bathurst.

In 1973 the XB Falcon ( sold with the slogan " The Great Australian Road Car ") was introduced with more aggressive styling, a multi-function control stalk ( indicators, high beam, horn ), new colours including colour-coded bumpers on the GT variants, and minor trim variations.

It is believed, due to the small production numbers of these Homologated GS Falcon Hardtops and the timing of manufacture, that the batch of 13 cars were built as a one off special order specifically for Ford and privateer race teams which planned to race them in the 1978 Australian Touring Car Championship season.

The 07 / 08 series also sees former V8 Supercar driver and two-times FIA World Touring Car champion Paul Radisich, driving a Ford Falcon in the series.

The 2009 winner of ' Bang For Your Bucks ' was the Subaru Impreza WRX sedan, which took over from the Ford FG Falcon XR6 Turbo ute, while the 2010 Performance Car of the Year saw a joint victory shared between the Nissan R35 GT-R and Audi R8 V10.

Bo Seton no longer competes at the top level, but still competes in some historic touring car races with his Historic Touring Car Mk. I Ford Capri as well as building both Capri and Holden Torana engines for various cars in Group 2 of the Touring Car Masters series, including the engine for so Glenn's Group 1 1973 Ford Falcon XB Hardtop.

This award was unique in that it is specifically authorized for award to non-CAP members: former Spaatz cadets who qualified based on their military training were encouraged to apply to Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters for the Falcon Award, even if they were no longer CAP members.

Senior Members who were awarded the Falcon Award may continue to wear it as their highest cadet award with their other ribbons.

1966 was a one-year model, when Falcon and Fairlane were redeveloped on the same basic platform, one which did not include the sedan delivery as 1965 marked the final year of sedan delivery production.

Instead, the 1966 Ranchero used Falcon front sheet metal, trim and interior accents on a modified station wagon platform.

The 1966 model was marketed simply as the Ford Ranchero, and did not carry Falcon badges.

The 1967 Ranchero, based on the post -' 66 Falcon / Fairlane chassis, used the basic 1966 Ranchero body with Fairlane trim, front sheet metal, and interior treatments instead of Falcon.

Styling was based on the third generation 1966 US Ford Falcon and it was promoted as the " Mustang bred Falcon ".

He left Falcon after being called " Falcon legend " because of a big fight with Director Chris Steele ( born March 17, 1966 ) with the one he was involved in a relationship.

Ferrer never achieved major stardom and later turned towards television, doing some directing for the series The Farmer's Daughter ( 1963 – 1966 ) starring Inger Stevens, but is best remembered in television work for his role opposite Jane Wyman as Angela Channing's attorney and briefly, her husband, Phillip Erikson, in Falcon Crest, as well as directing a few of the series episodes.

The Falcon Ranchero and Falcon station wagon were, between 1966 and 1970, identical under the skin to the Fairlane versions of the same model.
