The Four Freedoms were goals articulated by US President Franklin D. Roosevelt on January 6, 1941.

In an address known as the Four Freedoms speech ( technically the 1941 State of the Union address ), he proposed four fundamental freedoms that people " everywhere in the world " ought to enjoy:

The concept of the Four Freedoms became part of the personal mission undertaken by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt regarding her inspiration behind the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, General Assembly Resolution 217A.

Indeed, these Four Freedoms were explicitly incorporated into the preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which reads, " Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed the highest aspiration of the common people ,...."

President Roosevelt ’ s Four Freedoms speech inspired a set of four Four Freedoms paintings by Norman Rockwell.

The paintings were accompanied in the magazine by matching essays on the Four Freedoms.

The United States Department of the Treasury toured Rockwell ’ s Four Freedoms paintings around the country after their publication in 1943.

The Four Freedoms Tour raised over $ 130, 000, 000 in war bond sales.

Rockwell's Four Freedoms paintings were also reproduced as postage stamps by the United States Post Office.

Also, postage stamps of the Four Freedoms were issued in 1943 and in 1946.

New Jersey muralist Michael Lenson ( 1903 – 72 ) likewise responded to Roosevelt ’ s speech in a pictorial way, painting a mural titled “ The Four Freedoms ” for the Fourteenth Street School in Newark, New Jersey.

The Four Freedoms Monument was created in 1941, and was dedicated at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1943.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park was a park designed by the architect Louis Kahn for the south point of Roosevelt Island.

Four Hundred Billion Stars, his first novel, won the Philip K. Dick Award in 1988.

His annual contributions for the Boy Scouts ' calendars between 1925 and 1976 ( Rockwell was a 1939 recipient of the Silver Buffalo Award, the highest adult award given by the Boy Scouts of America ), were only slightly overshadowed by his most popular of calendar works: the " Four Seasons " illustrations for Brown & Bigelow that were published for 17 years beginning in 1947 and reproduced in various styles and sizes since 1964.

Four of his films have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film: The Promised Land ( 1975 ), The Maids of Wilko ( 1979 ), Man of Iron ( 1981 ), and Katyń ( 2007 ).

In the 1970s, she starred in such films as Three Days of the Condor, Little Big Man, Chinatown, The Three / Four Musketeers, Eyes of Laura Mars, and Network, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress as the scheming TV executive Diana Christensen.

They each provided well known songs during this period, in addition to the singles, Pinder's songs " A Simple Game " ( 1968 ) & " So Deep Within You " ( 1969 ) were successfully covered by The Four Tops, Pinder winning an Ivor Novello Award for " A Simple Game ", Elkie Brooks later covered Hayward's " Nights in White Satin ".

Garfield was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Four Daughters in 1939 and Best Actor for Body and Soul in 1948.

These included: the King's Medal for Service in the Cause of Freedom from Great Britain, officer in the French Legion of Honor, the Medal for Merit, the Niels Bohr International Gold Medal, the Atoms for Peace Award, the Oersted Medal from the American Association of Physics Teachers, the Four Freedoms Award from the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute, the Public Welfare Medal from the National Academy of Sciences, and the Vannevar Bush Award from the National Science Foundation.

The school's famous basketball alumni include Billy Packer, a guard on the 1962 Final Four team who became far more famous as a basketball broadcaster ; Tyrone Curtis " Muggsy " Bogues, the shortest player ever to play in the NBA ; Randolph Childress, for his MVP performance in the 1995 ACC Tournament ; Utah Jazz swingman Josh Howard ; Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers and the 2006 NBA Rookie of the Year Award ; and two-time league MVP and three-time NBA Finals MVP Tim Duncan.

Four of the decade's Academy Award winners for best picture were British productions, including six Oscars for the film musical Oliver!

In 1972, Gordy attended FIDM in Los Angeles, where he produced the commercially successful Billie Holiday biography Lady Sings the Blues, starring Diana Ross ( who was nominated for an Academy Award ) and Richard Pryor, and introducing Billy Dee Williams ( cast in a role originally for Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops ).

Four years earlier, in 1986, Montana won the AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award.

BBC Four further supports foreign language films with its annual World Cinema Award which has been running since 2004.

Four years later he won the International Herald Tribune Award for " International Editor of the Year " for his work on Men's Healths foreign editions.

He is best known for his roles in the films Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Made in Britain, Legend of 1900, Four Rooms, Skellig, Planet of the Apes, The Incredible Hulk, and Rob Roy, receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the latter.

In 2005, Bercow won the Channel Four / Hansard Society Political Award for ' Opposition MP of the Year '.

It also has won the César for Best Film Music, and as a co-production with Canada it won the Genie Award for Best Motion Picture and the BBC Four World Cinema Award in 2004.

Four of the football players collected silver medals in the bandy World Championships in 1965 ; Steinar Pettersen, Inge Thun, Thorodd Presberg and Ole Johnny Friise.

Four Cowboy Olympic wrestlers coached by Gallagher earned medals.

Four of these medals are at union level: the Arthur Holmes Medal for Solid Earth Geosciences, the Alfred Wegener Medal for atmospheric, hydrological, or ocean sciences, the Jean Dominique Cassini Medal for planetary and space sciences, and the Alexander von Humboldt Medal for scientists from developing countries ( with emphasis on Latin America and Africa ), who have achieved exceptional international standing in geosciences and planetary and space sciences, defined in their widest senses.
