Boundaries of the former's Collegiate Peaks Wilderness and the latter's Mount Massive Wilderness are near the pass on the south and north respectively ; the Hunter – Fryingpan Wilderness is also nearby.

A more substantial archeological find was a rock shelter near Fryingpan Creek, east of Goat Island Mountain.

Little Tahoma, on the east flank of Mount Rainier, looms over the Wonderland Trail where it crosses Fryingpan Creek.

It traverses the Sawatch Range west of Leadville, connecting the headwaters of the Arkansas River on the east with the upper valley of the Fryingpan River above Basalt, in the basin of the Colorado River.

Fryingpan River and the Roaring Fork River intersect the southwest corner of the county.

It receives the Fryingpan River at Basalt.

The Fryingpan River is a tributary of the Roaring Fork River, approximately long, in west central Colorado in the United States.

It is also traversed by Hagerman Pass to the north, connecting the Arkansas Headwaters near Leadville with the upper valley of the Fryingpan River.

The Valley is defined by the valley of the Roaring Fork River and its tributaries, including the Crystal and Fryingpan River.

The Roaring Fork Valley is part of the larger Roaring Fork Watershed, which includes the Fryingpan and Crystal River valleys.

Non-winter recreational and cultural activities such as fly fishing on the Fryingpan and whitewater rafting on the Roaring Fork, Aspen Institute and Rocky Mountain Institute conferences, the Aspen Music Festival, and numerous other cultural events attract visitors year-round.

Whitman is commemorated by Whitman College in Walla Walla, Whitman County, Washington, the Wallowa – Whitman National Forest, Mount Rainier's Whitman Glacier, and numerous schools, including Marcus Whitman Central School in Rushville, New York, his hometown.

The Pamirs in particular are heavily glaciated, and Tajikistan is home to the largest non-polar glacier in the world, the Fedchenko Glacier.

In addition, since 2004, new glaciers have formed on the crater wall above Crater Glacier feeding rock and ice onto its surface below ; there are two rock glaciers to the north of the eastern lobe of Crater Glacier.

North of Frederick Sound to Cape Spencer, and including Glacier Bay and the Lynn Canal, are the Northern Tlingit, who occupy the warmest and richest of the Sitka Spruce and Western Hemlock forest.

A very considerable outlyer, whose chief summits are the Schärhorn and the Gross Windgällen, belonging to the canton of Uri, is connected with the Tödi by the range of the Clariden, north to the Hüfi Glacier.

There are several Canadian National Parks in the Pacific Northwest, including Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island, Mount Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park in the Selkirk Range alongside Rogers Pass, Kootenay National Park and Yoho National Park on the British Columbia flank of the Rockies, Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve in the Queen Charlotte Islands, and the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve in the Strait of Georgia.

The longest of these are both 9¼ miles, the Mer de Glace at Chamonix and the Gorner Glacier at Zermatt.

There are several small glaciers on the mountain, including Belukha Glacier.

Atop these mountains is the Juneau Icefield, a large ice mass from which about 30 glaciers flow ; two of these, the Mendenhall Glacier and the Lemon Creek Glacier, are visible from the local road system ; the Mendenhall glacier has been generally retreating ; its front face is declining both in width and height.

Nearby depots are in: Whitefish ( 22 miles north, toll free phone: 800-862-7245 ) and West Glacier.

Those participating annually are the Birdsview Brewing Co., Challenger Ridge Winery, Eagle Haven Winery, and Glacier Peak Winery.

From the south side, the canopied woodlands overlooking Lake Glacier are visible ; from the north side, visitors are presented with a view of downtown Youngstown.

Today, Glacier National Park operates 33 of their original 35 buses, where they are referred to as " Red Jammers ", and 8 ( of an original 98 ) have been restored for renewed service in Yellowstone National Park.

Also in the Panhandle, but not in Tongass National Forest, are the Glacier Bay Wilderness and a small part of the Wrangell-Saint Elias Wilderness, which are both administered by the National Park Service.

Other attractions are the Marmot Basin ski area ; the Snocoach tours of the Athabasca Glacier, an outlet glacier of the Columbia Icefield ; Athabasca Falls ; the Jasper Tramway, and numerous other outdoor related recreational activities ( such as hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, rafting, kayaking and camping ).

Other places named in his honor are Muir Woods National Monument, Muir Beach, John Muir College, Mount Muir, Camp Muir and Muir Glacier.

Glacier National Park borders Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada — the two parks are known as the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, and were designated as the world's first International Peace Park in 1932.

In Glacier National Park snowshoe hares are a prey item of Rocky Mountain wolves ( Canis lupus irremotus ).

Glacier ice speed increases are already observed in Peninsula areas where ice shelves disintegrated in prior years.

The Forbes River and Forbes Glaciers in New Zealand are named after him as is Aiguille Forbes between the Glacier d ' Argentiere and the Glacier du Tour above Chamonix.

The falls are fed by the Daly Glacier, which is part of the Waputik Icefield.

The Triglav Glacier () is located below the summit on the karstified Triglav Plateaux (), part of the northeastern side of the mountain.

Glacier Bay National Park is located in southeast Alaska, as is Wrangell – St.

Glacier County is a county located in the U. S. state of Montana.

The western part of Glacier National Park is located in the county.

Sheridan Glacier, located 15 miles outside of Cordova, Alaska was named in his honor.

The visitor center at Portage Glacier in Southcentral Alaska ( located within Chugach National Forest ) is named the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center.

The Aletsch Glacier is one of the many glaciers located between the cantons of Berne and Valais on the Bernese Alps located east of the Gemmi Pass.
