* 1873 – American Indian Wars: while protecting a railroad survey party in Montana, the United States 7th Cavalry, under Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer clashes for the first time with the Sioux near the Tongue River ; only one man on each side is killed.

George French Angus may have collected a description of a bunyip in his account of a " water spirit " from the Moorundi people of the Murray River before 1847, stating it is " much dreaded by them … It inhabits the Murray ; but … they have some difficulty describing it.

Captain George Higton and five other men volunteered to make the hazardous voyage to the River Plate in one of the ship's longboats.

He was also spending time with Eleanor Jacques, but her attachment to Dennis Collings remained an obstacle to his hopes of a more serious relationship. The pen-name " George Orwell " was inspired by the River Orwell

Lake Champlain also receives water from Lake George via the La Chute River.

In 1830 Captain Charles Sturt reached the river after travelling down its tributary the Murrumbidgee River and named it the Murray River in honour of the then British Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, Sir George Murray, not realising it was the same river that Hume and Hovell had encountered further upstream.

* 1976 – The ferry George Prince is struck by a ship while crossing the Mississippi River between Destrehan and Luling, Louisiana.

* The St. Johns River creates a large peninsula over 75 miles in length that stretches from eastern Jacksonville down to the border of Flagler and Volusia counties, where the river emanates from Lake George.

At approximately 9: 40 AM Eastern Daylight Time on April 27, 2012 Enterprise took off from Dulles International Airport en-route to a fly-by over the Hudson River, New York's JFK International Airport, the Statue of Liberty, the George Washington and Verrazano-Narrows Bridges, and several other landmarks in the city ; in an approximately 45-minute " final tour ".

During his discussions with George Hammond, first British Minister to the U. S. from 1791, Jefferson tried to achieve three important goals: secure British admission of violating the Treaty of Paris ( 1783 ) ; vacate their posts in the Northwest ( the territory between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River north of the Ohio ); and compensate the United States to pay American slave owners for the slaves whom the British had freed and evacuated at the end of the war.

Following the advice of George Washington, John Adams and others, in 1802 Jefferson and Congress agreed to authorize the funding and construction of the United States Military Academy at West Point on the Hudson River in New York.

* November 27 – American Indian Wars – Battle of Washita River: In the early morning, United States Army Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer leads an attack on a band of Cheyenne living on reservation land with Chief Black Kettle, killing 103 Cheyenne.

* May 15 – Jamestown: Christopher Newport, George Percy, Gabriel Archer, and others travel 6 days exploring along the James River up to the falls and Powhatan's village.

* May 19 – King George II of Great Britain grants the Ohio Company a charter of land around the forks of the Ohio River.

* Royal Colony of North Carolina Governor George Burrington asks the North Carolina General Assembly to pass an act establishing a town on the Cape Fear River, in what is seen as a political move to shift the power away from the powerful Cape Fear plantation class.

Zebra herd, 2010: Stopper, Reviver, Survivor, and Dasher, ( named after the " Driver Reviver " stop at the Kevin Wheatley | Kevin " Dasher " Wheatley Victoria Cross | VC roadside stop where they were first installed ; and the new baby zebra, George.

Kuujjuaq also witnesses annual migrations of the George River caribou herd.

Rather than attacking the camp, the Cheyenne scouts veered to the left toward the horse herd and the 2nd Cavalry, commanded by Captain George L. Tyler, followed them.

Important variations in the water flow of the Caniapiscau River from 1981 to 1984, during the period when the Caniapiscau Reservoir was being filled, may have contributed to the death by drowning of 9, 600 migratory woodland caribou in September 1984 at Chute du Calcaire ( about 1, 5 % of George River herd ).

European settlement in the Burien area dates to 1864, when George Ouellet, a French-Canadian from Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce, Quebec, purchased his first of several land patents for a homestead site directly from a Federal land office.

Finally, on 24 July 1908, the King's eldest son, Prince George, Prince of Wales, dedicated the Quebec Battlefields Park at the Plains of Abraham, then presenting the title deeds of the lands to the Earl Grey.

" The official memorial record of the anniversary was titled The King's Book of Quebec ; with the assent of George V, the reigning monarch at the time, the volume was published in 1911.

Kangiqsualujjuaq (; also Kangirsualujjuaq ᑲᖏᕐᓱᐊᓗᔾᔪᐊᖅ ) is an Inuit village located on the east coast of Ungava Bay at the mouth of the George River, in Nunavik, Quebec, Canada.

Fort Carillon was situated south of Lake Champlain and north of Lake George, a natural point of conflict between the French forces, who were advancing south from Quebec through the Richelieu River towards Lake Champlain and the Hudson Valley, and the British forces, who were hoping to move north.

There were two main armies in North America to work with: General Guy Carleton's army in Quebec, which had in 1776 successfully driven back the American invasion begun in 1775, and General William Howe's army, which had driven George Washington's army from New York City in the New York campaign.
