Fargnoli and Gillespie suggest that the book's opening chapter " introduces major themes and concerns of the book ", and enumerate these as " Finnegan's fall, the promise of his resurrection, the cyclical structure of time and history ( dissolution and renewal ), tragic love as embodied in the story of Tristan and Iseult, the motif of the warring brothers, the personification of the landscape and the question of Earwicker's crime in the park, the precise nature of which is left uncertain throughout the Wake.

In 1946, Bebop " co-inventor " Dizzy Gillespie encouraged the young trombonist's development with the comment, " I've always known that the trombone could be played different, that somebody'd catch on one of these days.

As Paul Tanner, Maurice Gerow, and David Megill suggest, " the tonal sonorities of these conservative players could be compared to pastel colors, while the solos of Gillespie and his followers could be compared to fiery red colors.

Clarke himself claimed that these stylistic elements were already in place by the time he put together the famous house band at Minton's Playhouse, which hosted Monk, Parker, Gillespie, Russell, saxophonist Don Byas and many others while serving as the incubator of the emerging small group sound.

The fourth, or north-western division, at Ludhiana, was to operate in the hilly country lying near the Sutlej: it assembled under Brigadier-General Ochterlony, and was destined to advance against the strong and extensive cluster of posts held by Amar Singh and the troops under his immediate orders at and surrounding Irkee, a considerable town of Kahlur, and to cooperate with the forces under Major-General Gillespie, moving downwards among the hills, when these positions should be forced, surrounding Amar Singh, and driving him upon that army.

The youngest son of Surgeon-Major James Hay Blackwell, H. E. I. C. S., and his wife, Eliza Jane Robertson, of 3, Gillespie terrace, St Andrews, Blackwell was educated at Trinity College, Glenalmond, where, as captain of school, he early displayed his leadership skills, combining these with sporting prowess, as captain of the 1st XI ( Cricket ), 1st XV ( Rugby ), and of the golf team.

Around 1945, Dizzy Gillespie parted ways with Parker, and Davis was hired as Gillespie's replacement in his quintet, which also featured Max Roach on drums, Al Haig ( replaced later by Sir Charles Thompson and Duke Jordan ) on piano, and Curley Russell ( later replaced by Tommy Potter and Leonard Gaskin ) on bass.

The restoration of the abbey has been proposed several times since the 18th century-in 1835 by the architect James Gillespie Graham as a meeting place for the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and, in 1906, as a chapel for the Knights of the Thistle — but both proposals were rejected.

Palisades del Rey ( also, Palisades Del Rey ) was the name of original 1921 neighborhood land development by Dickinson & Gillespie Co. that later came to be called Playa del Rey.

Gillespie made his first domestic first-class century exactly a year later on his 32nd birthday in a County Championship match versus Surrey at The Oval whilst playing for Yorkshire.

The Wake are a British post punk and later indie pop band, founded in Glasgow in 1981 by Gerard " Caesar " McInulty ( formerly of Altered Images ), Steven Allen and Joe Donnelly, who was later replaced by Bobby Gillespie.
