Gliese and catalogue
: Extension of the Gliese catalogue ( 1970, R. Woolley, E. A. Epps, M. J. Penston and S. B. Pocock ).
Unlike the Gliese, it does not cut off at a given distance from the Sun ; rather it attempts to catalogue all known measured parallaxes.
* GJ 84. 3, entry in the Gliese – Jahreiß catalogue ( Preliminary Version of the Third Catalogue of Nearby Stars, W. Gliese and H. Jahreiss, 1991, CDS ID V / 70A.
The Gliese Catalogue of Nearby Stars is a frequently referenced, modern star catalogue of stars located within 25 parsecs ( 81. 54 ly ) of the Earth.
In 1957 German astronomer Wilhelm Gliese published his first star catalogue of nearly one thousand stars located within of Earth, listing their known properties and ordered by right ascension.
New stars not in the original Gliese catalogue were given fractional numbers to slot them ' between ' existing Gliese stars to retain the existing right ascension order.
Gliese published an extension to the second edition of the catalogue in 1979 in collaboration with Hartmut Jahreiß.
The combined catalogue is now commonly referred to as the Gliese – Jahreiß ( GJ ) catalog.
Some stars are best known by the original catalogue number, such as Gliese 581 and Gliese 710.
The Gliese catalogue stars are frequent targets of study due to their proximity to Earth.

Gliese and list
Gliese published the Third Catalogue of Nearby Stars ( CNS3 ) in 1991, again in collaboration with Hartmut Jahreiß ; the list now containing information on more than 3, 800 stars.

Gliese and all
It is also known as Luyten 789-6 and Gliese 866 and all three components are M-type red dwarfs.

Gliese and star
Recently, the team of Stéphane Udry have discovered a new planet named Gliese 581 g, which is an extrasolar planet orbiting the red dwarf star Gliese 581.
Gliese 581 g appears to lie in the habitable zone of space surrounding the star, and therefore could possibly host life as we know it.
For example, during the next 10 million years the known star with the greatest possibility of perturbing the Oort cloud is Gliese 710.
* Gliese 581 c and Gliese 581 g may be tidally locked to their parent star Gliese 581.
* Gliese 581 b, Gliese 581 d, and Gliese 581 e may be tidally locked to their parent star Gliese 581.
Furthermore, the first speculated " habitable " planet discovered, Gliese 581 c, orbits a red dwarf star ( Gliese 581 ) located only 20. 3 light years from Earth — a notable similarity to the novel wherein Erythro is the first inhabited extra – solar body.
In about 40, 000 years, it and Voyager 2 will each come to within about 1. 7 light-years of two separate stars: Voyager 1 will have approached star Gliese 445, located in the constellation Ophiuchus ; and Voyager 2 will have approached star Ross 248, located in the constellation of Andromeda.
Research papers most commonly use the designations BD + 36 2147, Gliese 411, and HD 95735 to refer to this star.
For example, the stars Gliese 644A and Gliese 644B form what appears to be a close visual binary star ; since Gliese 644B is a spectroscopic binary, this is actually a triple system.
* Gliese 649 has a saturnian planet around the red dwarf star.
* April – A METI message Cosmic Call 1 sent from the 70-meter Eupatoria Planetary Radar arrives at its destination, Gliese 777 star.
In 2009, Mayor and his team discovered the lightest exoplanet ever detected around a main sequence star, Gliese 581 e.
This include finding the lightest exoplanet known at the time of discovery in, Gliese 581e, with only twice the mass of the Earth, and the richest planetary system known at the time, with up to seven planets orbiting a Sun-like star.

Gliese and systems
Some systems, such as HD 10180 and Gliese 581 contain multiple unconfirmed planets pushing the total expected number of planets to be discovered in their systems higher.

Gliese and within
Gliese 581 is another well known red dwarf system which is speculated to have multiple planets within the habitable zone.
The distance of closest approach of Gliese 710 is difficult to compute precisely as it depends sensitively on its current position and velocity ; Bobylev estimates that it will pass within 0. 311 ± 0. 167 pc ( 1. 01 ± 0. 54 light years ) of the Sun.

Gliese and Earth

The Gliese catalog stars are frequent targets of study due to their proximity to Earth, as suggested by their high proper motion.
This record was contested in 2007 by Gliese 581 c with a minimal mass of 5 Earth masses, and since 2009 Gliese 581 e is the lightest known " regular " exoplanet, with minimum 1. 9 Earth masses.
Since the star is located further than 25 parsecs from Earth, it is not listed in the Gliese Catalogue of Nearby Stars.
