The 1970 version, following Woodstock in the previous year, set out to move one step forward and enlisted Jimi Hendrix.

After being influenced by Jose Feliciano's version of The Doors ' " Light My Fire ", and Jimi Hendrix, Isley trained himself to be a guitarist at 16.

The US version replaced the doll photos with a photograph of Hendrix performing under multicoloured lights.

One calls the Knight / Hendrix version of Albert King's " Travelin ' to California " ( from his The Big Blues album, later re-recorded as " California " for Door to Door ) as " a dead ringer, both in structure and mood, for his 1967 perennial ' Red House '".

One remaining landmark that suggests a black community was active in the Strathcona neighbourhood during the first six decades of the twentieth century is the Jimi Hendrix Shrine.
