In the list of popes given in the Holy See's annual directory, Annuario Pontificio, the following note is attached to the name of Pope Leo VIII ( 963 – 965 ): At this point, as again in the mid-eleventh century, we come across elections in which problems of harmonising historical criteria and those of theology and canon law make it impossible to decide clearly which side possessed the legitimacy whose factual existence guarantees the unbroken lawful succession of the successors of Saint Peter.

Sylvester III, sometimes listed as an antipope, appears in the Holy See's Annuario Pontificio as a pope: because of obscurities about mid-11th-century canon law and the historical facts, it expresses no judgement on his legitimacy.

It also distinguishes between the employees of the Holy See ( 2, 750 working in the Roman Curia with another 333 working in the Holy See's diplomatic missions abroad ) and the 1, 909 employees of the state.

Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Secretary of the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State, acts as the Holy See's minister of foreign affairs.

The Holy See's Annuario Pontificio, in its list of popes and antipopes, attaches a footnote to its mention of Stephen II ( III ): " On the death of Zachary the Roman priest Stephen was elected ; but, since four days later he died, before his consecratio, which according to the canon law of the time was the true commencement of his pontificate, his name is not registered in the Liber Pontificalis nor in other lists of the Popes.

The Holy See's Annuario Pontificio ( 2012 ) identifies him as a Roman who reigned from 108 or 109 to 116 or 119.

In 1999, in an attempt to address some of this controversy, the International Catholic-Jewish Historical Commission ( Historical Commission ), a group of three Catholic and three Jewish scholars was appointed, respectively, by the Holy See's Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews ( Holy See's Commission ) and the International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations ( IJCIC ), to whom a preliminary report was issued in October 2000.

The disagreement between members over additional documents locked up up under the Holy See's 70 year rule resulted in a discontinuation of the Commission in 2001 on friendly terms.

He managed to overcome most of these problems — the Holy See's disputes with the Kingdom of Naples, Sardinia, Spain, Venice, and Austria were settled.

The Holy See's Annuario Pontificio ( 2012 ) identifies him as a Roman who reigned from 117 or 119 to 126 or 128.

One bishop claimed that the English-speaking conferences should have withstood the Holy See's insistence on a more literal translation.

The Secretariat of State was created in the 15th century and is now the dicastery most involved in coordination of the Holy See's activities.

The Holy See's financial authorities are made up of three Offices.

They conclude that the great majority of the bishops listed in the Holy See's Annuario Pontificio, including Benedict XVI himself, are in reality merely priests or even laymen.

When Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo conferred episcopal ordination on four men in Washington on September 24, 2006, the Holy See's Press Office declared that " the Church does not recognize and does not intend in the future to recognize these ordinations or any ordinations derived from them, and she holds that the canonical state of the four alleged bishops is the same as it was prior to the ordination.

The commentary returns often to the topic of the anointing of the Holy Spirit and was originally written as a mystagogy, an instruction for new Christians.

* Winter – Leo I sends a letter to Valentinian III, stating " by the Holy Spirit's inspiration the emperor needs no human instruction and is incapable of doctrinal error ".

Diaconal candidates receive instruction in philosophy, theology, study of the Holy Scriptures ( the Bible ), homiletics, sacramental studies, evangelization, ecclesiology, counseling, and pastoral care and ministry before ordination.

A New York Times article published on 1 July 2010 said, as is mentioned above, that the 1962 instruction was a restatement of that of 1922, giving the Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office authority to prosecute clergy accused of sexual abuse.

In his Restitution he wrote, " The divine, unquestionably Holy Scriptures which are called the Bible alone have the fame that they are needful and sufficient for teaching reproof, correction and for instruction in righteousness for which purpose also almighty God has given them in order that the man of God be without error and equipped for every good work.

Endowed with a charter issued by Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor, on May 19, 1607, the university was allowed to proceed with instruction in October 1607.

" Rychlak adds " In October 1942, a message went out from the Vatican to its representatives in Zagreb regarding the “ painful situation that spills out against the Jews in Croatia ” and instructing them to petition the government for “ a more benevolent treatment of those unfortunates .” The Cardinal Secretary of State ’ s notes reflect that Vatican petitions were successful in getting a suspension of “ dispatches of Jews from Croatia ” by January 1943, but Germany was applying pressure for “ an attitude more firm against the Jews .” Another instruction from the Holy See to its representatives in Zagreb directing them to work on behalf of the Jews went out on March 6, 1943.

The instruction Redemptionis Sacramentum of 25 March 2004 explains: " According to the tradition of the Roman Rite, this practice does not have the connotation either of reconciliation or of a remission of sins, but instead signifies peace, communion and charity before the reception of the Most Holy Eucharist.

In fourteenth century, Pope Clement VI achieved some consistency in route with the Bull, " Nuper Carissimae ," establishing the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, and charging the friars with " the guidance, instruction, and care of Latin pilgrims as well as with the guardianship, maintenance, defense and rituals of the Catholic shrines of the Holy Land.

For the instruction of children he introduced, in 1851, a community of the Sisters of St. Joseph, and in 1855, the Brothers of the Holy Family.

Seeing, however, that no one is able to grasp the whole extent of this revelation and that there is often a meaning hidden within a sentence that transcends the comprehension of the translator, which is lost in a free translation, but could be discovered in a more exact one through a deeper instruction of the Holy Spirit, it is thus an imperative necessity to reproduce the Word of the original text as it were in a mirror.
