The Imperial Abbey controlled the territory surrounding St. Gallen, known as Fürstenland | Alte Landschaft or Fürstenland, until 1798.

Otto II and his wife Theophanu enhanced the spiritual importance of the city by establishing a Benedictine Imperial abbey there: the Memleben Abbey.

Within a short time, the Memleben Abbey had become one of the richest and most influential of the Imperial abbeys.

Otto II appointed him as his Imperial Chancellor from 980 to 982, as well as the Abbot of the Nonantola Abbey.

Later, it was transferred to a special mausoleum constructed by his mother as the Imperial Crypt at Saint Michael's Abbey, Farnborough, Hampshire, England, next to his father.

His body and that of the Prince Imperial were originally buried in St Mary's Church, before being removed to St Michael's Abbey, Farnborough.

The rich and celebrated Imperial Abbey of Prüm suffered greatly during the 9th century from the marauding incursions of the Norsemen.

The administration of Essen had for a long time been in the hands of the princess-abbesses as heads of the Imperial Abbey of Essen.

The town belonged to the Abbey of Reichenau, then to the house of Habsburg for a long time, and for 40 years was a Free Imperial City.

The imperial city also housed three Imperial abbeys ( St. Emmeram's Abbey | St. Emmeram, Niedermünster, Regensburg | Niedermünster and Obermünster, Regensburg | Obermünster.

The town began in 1142 with the settlement of the first Cistercian monastery in Bohemia, Sedlec Monastery, brought from the Imperial immediate Cistercian Waldsassen Abbey.

This region comprised most of modern Belgium excepting the Prince-Bishopric of Liège, the Imperial Abbey of Stavelot-Malmedy, the County of Bouillon and Luxembourg ( including the homonymous present Belgian province ), and in addition some parts of the Netherlands ( namely the Duchy of Limburg, now divided between the Dutch province of Limburg and the Belgian provinces of Liège and Limburg ) as well as, until 1678, most of the present Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in northern France.

At the end of the ceremony, the Monarch holds the Orb in the left hand, the Sceptre with the Cross in the right hand, and wears the Imperial State Crown as he or she leaves Westminster Abbey.

While the small town of Altdorf was ruled by the Reichslandvogt ( imperial steward ) of Swabia, the abbey of Weingarten won the status of an " Imperial Abbey " with privileges similar to those of an Imperial Free City.

When Friedrich II enfeoffed the territory of the now derelict Lorsch Imperial Abbey to Archbishop Siegfried III of Eppstein, Bensheim became part of the Electorate of Mainz's domains and likely received town rights only a few decades later, which is, however, only proved by a certificate issued in 1320.

As they became more prominent at court they grew wealthier and acquired parts of the western side of the high street from the Abbey to create a large mansion and grounds including, notably, Moulton Close which is now the park around the Imperial War Museum.

Brockway was born to W. G. Brockway and Frances Elizabeth Abbey in Calcutta, India, which was at that time under British Imperial rule.

In the early 14th century they inherited the Vogtei over Rübenach near Koblenz, a possession of Imperial Abbey of St Maximin at Trier.

Although this principle was held by all emperors after Constantine, it met with increasing resistance and ultimately rejection by bishops in the west after the effective end of Imperial power in there.

There were romantic nationalist movements for separation in Finland, the Kingdom of Bavaria held apart from a united Germany, and Czech and Serb nationalism continued to trouble Imperial politics.

By the Imperial Session held in Washington, D. C. in 1900, there were 55, 000 members and 82 Temples.

A session of the Reichstag was held in Trier in 1512, during which the demarcation of the Imperial Circles was definitively established.

* August 10 – At the Vienna Hofburg, the grand opening ceremony is held for the Imperial Natural History Museum (), begun in 1871 ; from August 13 to the end of December, the museum counts 175, 000 visitors.

* In Austria, the members of the Imperial family, due to their status as also members of the royal family of the Apostolic kingdom of Hungary, held the style of Imperial and Royal Highness ( HI & RH ), but actually traditionally the other way around: " königliche und kaiserliche Hoheit ".

However, Otto II's mother and his wife Theophano distrusted the influence the other held over the Emperor, causing friction within the Imperial household.

In 1254, he was excommunicated by Pope Innocent IV as a supporter of King Conrad, due to ongoing political conflicts between the Emperor, who held the Kingdom of Sicily and wanted to reestablish his power in the Imperial Kingdom of Italy, especially in the Lombardy region, and the Papacy, whose States lay in between and feared being overpowered by the Emperor.

The southern Holstein region belonged to Francia and later to the Holy Roman Empire, it was however held as an Imperial fief by the Danish kings since the 1460 Treaty of Ribe.

The chief motive of these men, both of whom were experienced generals, was that they wished to assume the Imperial position that Nikephoros II and John I had held, and thus return Basil to the role of impotent cypher.
