The Judgment of Paris: The Revolutionary Decade that Gave the World Impressionism.

The Judgment of Paris is a story from Greek mythology, which was one of the events that led up to the Trojan War and ( in slightly later versions of the story ) to the foundation of Rome.

Like many myths, there are variations of the Judgment of Paris.

The story is the basis of an opera, The Judgment of Paris, with a libretto by William Congreve, that was set to music by four composers in London, 1700-1701.

The opera Le Cinesi ( The Chinese Women ) by Christoph Willibald Gluck ( 1754 ) concludes with a ballet, The Judgment of Paris, sung as a vocal quartet.

Francesco Cilea's 1902 opera Adriana Lecouvreur also includes a Judgment of Paris ballet sequence.

Novelist Gore Vidal named his 1952 book, The Judgment of Paris, after this story.

The Judgment of Paris was burlesqued in the 1954 musical The Golden Apple.

The Judgment of Paris is featured in the 2003 TV miniseries Helen of Troy.

His success would encourage other Californian winemakers to follow suit and culminated in Chateau Montelena's victory over Burgundy Chardonnay in the 1976 blind tasting event conducted by French judges known as the Judgment of Paris.

Thirty-three years after the " Judgment of Paris " Cellier magazine organized a blind tasting in Montreal based on the Judgment of Paris.

The success of California and new world Chardonnays, partly encouraged by the Californian showing at the Judgment of Paris wine tasting, brought varietal wine labeling to more prominence and the easy to pronounce Chardonnay grape was one of the largest beneficiaries.

* The Judgment of Paris and its aftermath are the subject of Michael Tippett's 1962 opera King Priam.

Eight large paintings were placed in gilded frames above the stone pediments and busts, including three of the Stuart and French Royal family, one executed by Sir Godfrey Kneller of Lord Burlington and his sisters, and popular mythological scenes such as " Daphne and Apollo " and " The Judgment of Paris " Twelve antique busts of Roman and Greek figures, such as Emperors, poets, politicians and generals were also positioned on gilded brackets designed by Lord Burlington ..

The Judgment of Paris by Peter Paul Rubens, depicting the three goddesses, Hera, Aphrodite and Athena, in a competition that causes the Trojan War.

He ordered from Peter Paul Rubens the " The Big Last Judgment " and received Raphael's " Canigiani Holy Family " as a dowry of his wife.

Although he was top billed in a number of Nazi-era themed films as The Man in the Glass Booth ; Counterpoint ( 1968 ); A Bridge Too Far ; Cross of Iron ; The Odessa File ; Julia ; and Judgment at Nuremberg, he also played more diverse characters in Krakatoa, East of Java ; The Black Hole ; The Freshman ; John Carpenter's Vampires ; Topkapi ; Stalin ; Candles in the Dark ; Erste Liebe ; Deep Impact ; and the television miniseries, Peter the Great ( 1986 ), which co-starred Vanessa Redgrave and Laurence Olivier.

( Rufinus gives the curious alternative title Judicium Petri, " Judgment of Peter ".

She was later buried at the Monastery of Alcobaça where her coffin can still be seen, opposite Peter's so that, according to the legend, at the Last Judgment Peter and Inês can look at each other as they rise from their graves.

An alumnus of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he is probably best known for his co-starring role of Chief Peter B. Clifford in the television series McCloud with Dennis Weaver from 1970 until 1977, for his role as a prisoner in the film Cool Hand Luke ( 1967 ), and for his role as the witness who cleared Dr. Richard Kimble ( David Janssen ) in " The Judgment ", the series finale of The Fugitive ( TV series ).
