In 1988, TSR released a boxed set, Kara-Tur: The Eastern Realms, describing the region in greater detail, with two 96-page books and maps.

In 1987, Kara-Tur was officially relocated to the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.

The 1987 Forgotten Realms Campaign Set left the eastern half of its continent reserved for the future publication of Kara-Tur.

In 1987, when TSR published the first Forgotten Realms boxed set, Kara-Tur was briefly described as the easternmost end of the continent of Faerûn.

The setting of Kara-Tur still exists on Abeir-Toril and is often mentioned in Forgotten Realms supplements.

This was a supplement of Forgotten Realms Kara-Tur monsters for the 2nd edition rules.

However, Al-Qadim appeared under its own label, and not the Forgotten Realms label, unlike Kara-Tur and Maztica.

This continent also includes Kara-Tur, which was the original setting of the D & D Oriental Adventures campaign setting, and Zakhara, home to the Arabian Nights setting Al-Qadim.

Zakhara is mostly isolated from the rest of the world, as the peninsula is separated from the main mass by the World Pillar Mountains ( also known as Wu Pi Te Shao in Kara-Tur ).

Kara-Tur is a fantasy world created by David Cook in the Oriental Adventures rulebook for the First Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game in 1986.

A reviewer for White Dwarf called the long background section of Kara-Tur in the book, a " bonus ".

In 1989 a printing of Trail Maps for Kara-Tur appeared.

The histachii yuan-ti appeared for the Kara-Tur campaign setting in the Monstrous Compendium Kara-Tur Appendix ( 1990 ), and is then reprinted in the Monstrous Manual ( 1993 ).

These are Aerie, a winged elf who, at a young age, was captured by slavers and sold to the circus, and has lost her wings ; Keldorn, an older paladin, and a respected member of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart ; Mazzy, an honourable halfling fighter who leads an adventuring group called the Fentan Knights ; Nalia, the daughter of a duke, and who tries to help those less fortunate than she ; Valygar, who is of a family noted for its talented magic-users, but hates the art ; Anomen, a member of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart, and whose wish is to become a full knight ; Cernd, a druid ; Haer ' Dalis, a tiefling bard, and member of an acting troupe ; Jan, a gnome, of the Jansen family ; Yoshimo, a thief from the land of Kara-Tur ; and Korgan, a dwarven fighter, of evil alignment.

The package covers only the western half of a single continent, with the eastern half reserved for future publication of Kara-Tur.

The setting's planet, Abeir-Toril, is home to many fantasy cultures that are inspired by real world's ( i. e. the continent of Faerun containing analogues of European, African and Middle-Eastern cultures, Kara-Tur as a stand-in for the Far East, or Maztica as a fictional representation of pre-columbian MesoAmerica ), as well as regions and kingdoms populated by non-human races.

The fantasy setting known as Kara-Tur was described in the original 1985 Oriental Adventures book.

The first map of Kara-Tur appeared in the adventure module OA1: Swords of the Daimyo, where the setting was still world-neutral.

Lying between Kara-Tur and the Horse-Plains was a Great Wall of Stone, better known as the Dragonwall.

The Empire of Wa was the first imperial state to be established in Kara-Tur, according to Waan tradition.

MC6 Monstrous Compendium, Kara-Tur Appendix was written by the TSR staff, with a cover by Jeff Easley, and was published by TSR in 1990 as 64 loose-leaf pages with four cardstock dividers.

Kara-Tur was later made a continent of Abeir-Toril.

Originally intended as a western part of the continent of Oerik, the first description of Kara-Tur, in the Oriental Adventures rulebook, made no attempt to link it with another D & D game-world.

Wizards of the Coast re-released Oriental Adventures ( a long out-of-print AD & D supplement ), changing the setting from the original Kara-Tur to Rokugan, and updating the supplement to the d20 rules.

The original Oriental Adventures includes a long background section on the fantasy setting known as Kara-Tur.

TSR went on to produce eight adventure modules using the Oriental Adventures rules and the Kara-Tur setting.

Kara-Tur is described in the " Province Book " from the 1986 Swords of the Daimyo module.

Later that year TSR converted the monsters of Kara-Tur to second edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules as part of the Monstrous Compendium series.

After 1990, TSR ceased publishing new material related to Kara-Tur.

Characters and artifacts from Kara-Tur sometimes show up in Faerûn, but beyond that there is little interaction between the continents.

The Empire of Shou Lung has the longest history in Kara-Tur second only to the Empire of Wa.

Unlike Kozakura, however, the Shogunate of Wa is strong and vital, and in fact Wa is enjoying the longest period of peace of any nation in Kara-Tur.

During that time, a secret organization known as the Cult of the Black Panther, whose leaders claimed that they were immortals who had aided the Nine Travelers in ruling Kara-Tur when they were still humans, made a claim that they were the rightful successors to the Nine Travelers.

To the east, Faerûn is bordered by a vast region of steppe that separates it from Kara-Tur.

" It consists of various continents and islands, including Faerûn, Kara-Tur, Zakhara, Maztica, Osse, Anchorome and Katashaka, a sub-Saharan-like continent south of Maztica, where humanity appeared.

While the Lord-Marshals of the Eastern and Western Realms ( The King and The Prince of Krondor respectively ) have the right to this rank themselves they will generally appoint a subordinate to the position, while they continue with the necessary governing of the realm.
