Kinlochleven () is a village in Lochaber, in the Scottish Highlands and lies at the eastern end of Loch Leven.

The Blackwater Reservoir is a reservoir created behind a dam in the mountains above Kinlochleven, Lochaber, Highland, Scotland.

The Lochaber district of the Highland region was created by merging the Ardnamurchan district and the Ballachulish and Kinlochleven electoral divisions of the former county of Argyll with the burgh of Fort William and the district of Lochaber of the former county of Inverness.

The Ardnamurchan, Ballachulish and Kinlochleven areas of Argyll became part of Lochaber District, in Highland.

Kinlochleven is the penultimate stop on the West Highland Way and an important tourism destination in the Scottish_Highlands.

The West Highland Way attracts over 85, 000 walkers each year and plays a vital role in the Kinlochleven economy.

Today, as part of the West Highland Way, it is used primarily by walkers and mountain bikers travelling between Kinlochleven and Glencoe.

The loch is navigable as far as Kinlochleven, and was used by ships bringing alumina to the smelter there until its closure.

The military route, which was built by the British army during the Jacobite rising, then headed towards Glen Coe before ascending the Devil's Staircase to Kinlochleven.

He joined the London-based firm of PW and CS Meik as a pupil ( coincidentally, engineering brothers Patrick Meik and Charles Meik were also born in Bishopwearmouth ) in the early 1900s and one of his earliest projects was the Kinlochleven hydroelectric scheme in the Western Highlands of Scotland, where he worked as assistant resident engineer.

The village of Kinlochleven at the head of the loch was established when the aluminium smelter was built there during the first decade of the twentieth century.

From here, the route climbs the Devil's Staircase before a great descent to sea level at Kinlochleven.

There are 10 Munro mountains ( mountains over 3, 000 ft ) in the Mamores above Kinlochleven with Binnein Mor the highest.

Indeed, the area around and above Kinlochleven contains more wild mountain land than all of the mountain national parks in England and Wales combined.

The biggest recent development was a new school, Kinlochleven High School, which opened in August 2008.

The power house and aluminium smelting plant were situated in Kinlochleven, which is adjacent to the sea loch Loch Leven.

William Halcrow, later Sir Willam Halcrow, joined the company and took up the position of assistant resident engineer at the Kinlochleven project.

There were coal-fired steam-turbine and some diesel-driven power stations serving urban locations, and excess capacity from a few large industrial hydroelectricity stations ( e. g. those serving the aluminium smelters at Foyers and Kinlochleven ) was made available locally, but there was no widespread distribution of electricity through a comprehensively integrated electric power transmission system such as the present National Grid.

Atlas Brewery was originally based in Kinlochleven and situated in a Grade B listed former aluminium smelting facility.

The most prominent of local businesses is Community Trust Bank, originally founded as the Bank of Choudrant.

Community Trust also sponsored the Louisiana Peach Festival in Ruston until 2005, whence sponsorship was taken up by Squire Creek Country Club.
