The Lakeland Terrier is a dog breed, which takes its name from its home of origin, the Lake District in England.

The Lakeland is similar in appearance to the slightly larger Welsh Terrier and is finer-boned.

When the UK Kennel Club recognised the Lakeland Terrier isn't clear.

The UK Kennel Club claim to have recognised Lakeland Terriers in 1921, whereas the Lakeland Terrier Club suggests this was closer to 1928.

The Lakeland Terrier Association ( now defunct ) was founded in 1921.

The working dog version of the Lakeland is often known as the Fell Terrier or Patterdale Terrier.

Several named breeds have been developed from the Fell terrier type, such as the Lakeland Terrier, Patterdale Terrier, Border Terrier, Scorrier terrier and other locally developed breeds.

The magazine's mascot was Zelda Van Gutters, a Lakeland Terrier dog who appeared throughout the magazine with sarcastic asides on the articles.

From the colored rough-coated Fell Terriers of Cumbria and the Scottish Borders were developed several Kennel Club breeds, including the Lakeland Terrier, the Welsh Terrier, the Border Terrier and the Manchester Terrier.

Motorists overshooting the western terminus of SR 582 travel westward along Country Club Drive to a T-intersection with Armenia Avenue on the western Tampa city limit, near Carrollwood ; travelers overshooting the eastern terminus of SR 582 follow US 301 / SR 41 near Clarkwild and toward Thonotosassa, where Hillsborough County Road 582 continues eastward ( on Knights-Griffin Road ) toward Lakeland.

Working Fell Terriers ( non-Kennel Club working terriers from the rocky Lakeland Fells region of the UK ) have always been quite variable in terms of size and shape, but have always been colored terriers ( tan or black or black and tan ), as opposed to the white-coated " foxing terriers " preferred in the south of England.

She was also an authority on the traditional Lakeland crafts, period furniture and stonework.

From the latter part of the nineteenth century through the early years of the twentieth century, Lakeland was home to several upscale hotels and a small amusement park along the shores of Onondaga Lake.

The area was variously called Lakeland, Lakeville, New Village, Ronkonkoma or West Middle Island until it settled on the name Lake Grove in mid-19th century, after the groves of trees near Lake Ronkonkoma.

In 1991 the Lakeland, Florida factory was sold and closed and by July that year the workforce had shrunk to just 45 ; with only $ 1, 000 in available cash remaining, Piper filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after a proposed takeover by competing French manufacturer Socata failed over the issue of product liability.

A remnant of this era is a property known as Mooreland which was once owned by the Moore family and is situated on land that now houses Lakeland Community College.

Ambleside is administered by South Lakeland District Council and forms part of the Lakes civil parish but from 1894 to 1935 it was a separate urban district council.
