The name Barcelona comes from the ancient Iberian Phoenician Barkeno, attested in an ancient coin inscription in Iberian script as Barkeno in Levantine Iberian script, in Ancient Greek sources as, Barkinṓn ; and in Latin as Barcino, Barcilonum and Barceno.

The best-preserved Latin inscription surviving from the Greek East, the edict survives in many versions, on materials as varied as wood, papyrus, and stone.

Excavations at Praeneste, an Etruscan city which became Roman, turned up about 118 cistae, one of which has been termed " the Praeneste cista " or " the Ficoroni cista " by art analysts, with special reference to the one manufactured by Novios Plutius and given by Dindia Macolnia to her daughter, as the archaic Latin inscription says.

The Latin ethnonym " Germani " seems to be attested in the Fasti Capitolini inscription for the year 222 BCE-de Galleis Insvbribvs et Germ ( aneis )-where it may simply refer to " related " peoples, namely related to the Gauls.

This Latin inscription regarding Tiberius Claudius Balbilus of Rome ( d. c. AD 79 ) mentions the " ALEXANDRINA BYBLIOTHECE " ( line eight ).

Similarly, " suprarenal " is derived from supra-( Latin, " above ") and renes.

From the early Middle Ages until after the Second Vatican Council the sacrament was administered, within the Latin Church, only when death was approaching and, in practice, bodily recovery was not ordinarily looked for, giving rise, as mentioned above to the name " Extreme Unction " ( i. e. final anointing ).

The style was used in bronze by Bernini for his spectacular St. Peter's baldachin, actually a ciborium ( which displaced Constantine's columns ), and thereafter became very popular with Baroque and Rococo church architects, above all in Latin America, where they were very often used, especially on a small scale, as they are easy to produce in wood by turning on a lathe ( hence also the style's popularity for spindles on furniture and stairs ).

Also, the first few words of the Latin version of the reader's promise seen above ( Do fidem me nullum librum vel ) can be found on the linguist's hat in the 1996 miniseries Gulliver's Travels.

The above names, English, Latin and Greek, are all exonyms.

Grosseteste wrote a number of early works in Latin and French while he was a clerk ( see biography above ), including one called Chasteau d ' amour, an allegorical poem on the creation of the world and Christian redemption, as well as several other poems and texts on household management and courtly etiquette.

The Latin annotation embroidered onto the Tapestry above his image reads: " Hic Odo Eps ( Episcopus ) Baculu ( m ) Tenens Confortat Pueros ", in English " Here Odo the Bishop holding a club strengthens the boys ".
