The province's name recalls the historic Lubusz Land ( Lebus or Lubus ), although part of the voivodeship in fact belongs to the historic region of Silesia.

By conquest the first leaders of the Polans, Mieszko I and especially Boleslaw I added a number of surrounding territories to the newly established core Polish state, and Lebus Land or Lubusz in Lusatia came under Polish rule.

In 1226 Lebus Land came under direct jurisdiction of the Holy Roman Empire, and around 1250 it was acquired by the Ascanian margraves of Brandenburg.

The district Lebus dates back to the Land Lebus, the region around the town of Lebus.

In 1250 – 52, the margraves gained half of Lebus Land, including the terra Küstrin between Warthe and Mietzel ( Myśla ), and the terra Chinz north of the Mietzel river, both previously held by Barnim.

Presently its eastern part lies within the Polish Lubusz Voivodeship, the western part with its historical capital Lebus in the German state of Brandenburg.

Lebus is located on the Oder River on the German border with Poland, 10 km north of Frankfurt ( Oder ).

The eldest son of John Cicero, Elector of Brandenburg, Joachim received an excellent education under the supervision of Dietrich von Bülow, Bishop of Lebus and Chancellor of Frankfurt University.

Lebus () is a town in the southeast of the Märkisch-Oderland District in Brandenburg, Germany.

German colonization of the region proceeded throughout the 13th century and the settlement became predominantly known as Lebus.

In 1701 Lebus became part of the Kingdom of Prussia.

The east part of the Lubusz ( Lebus ) region was transferred to Poland, where in communist propaganda it was referred to as part of the " Regained " or " Recovered Territories ".

During World War II, Lebus, including its medieval center, was almost completely destroyed, and its land east of the Oder joined Poland in 1945 according to the Potsdam Agreement.

The coat of arms of Lebus depicts a wolf carrying a sheep in its mouth.

In 1373 Bishop Wenceslaus moved the official seat of the Bishopric of Lebus from Göritz an der Oder ( Górzyca ) to Fürstenwalde and its Marienkirche ( Church of the Virgin Mary ) was raised to a cathedral.

He promoted Georg von Blumenthal, the " Pillar of Catholicism ", as Chancellor of Frankfurt University, Bishop of Lebus and a Privy Counsellor.

Part of the historic province was located on the western bank of the Oder River, where the main settlement Lubusz, later known as the German town of Lebus, was located.

The district dates back to the district Lebus and the district Oberbarnim, which were both created in 1816.

In 1863 Seelow became the seat of the administration of the district Lebus, and in 1950 the district was renamed to Kreis Seelow.

Lebus was added in 1424.

The first mention of the town, which names Krosno as one of 34 estates in Małopolska ( Lesser Poland ) granted to the Lubusz ( German: Lebus ) Bishopric, appears in a document signed by Leszek II the Black, Duke of Kraków, in 1282.

A Royal Polish contingent wanted to add to the Bishopric of Lebus.

Bernard was later made bishop of Lebus.

The Griffin dukes, Silesian Piasts, Dukes of Greater Poland, the bishops of Lebus and the bishops of Kammin all competed for the Warthe / Netze ( Notec ) area, centered around the burgh of Zantoch.

He was born in Lebus, on the Oder River, and educated in Leipzig, Berlin, and Paris.

The Oderbruch ( literally in, bruch is related to the English term brook ) is a region along the river Oder between the towns Oderberg and Bad Freienwalde in the north and Lebus in the south.

The towns in the region are Gorgast, Küstrin-Kietz, Lebus, Letschin, Manschnow, Neulewin, Podelzig, Reitwein and Zechin.

The general consensus amongst scholars is that Luwian was spoken — to a greater or lesser degree — across a large area of western Anatolia, including ( possibly ) Wilusa (= Troy ), the Seha River Land ( to be identified with the Hermos and / or Kaikos valley ), and the kingdom of Mira-Kuwaliya with its core territory of the Maeander valley.

In 1158 a feud with Henry's son, Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony, was interrupted by a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
